I hear that most people are getting rid of Vista and re-installing xp. At least people that I know who have it.

If it's a pain then I may do that and just re-install Vista later on down the road when it's more stable. However, I'll try to see what I think and give it a chance.

Just a note - I have two friends who in the last month have bought a new PC with Vista and they said it works great so far, just takes a little time learning it's quirks is all.

I have Vista and it's fine. No issues.

It's definitely not across-the-board terrible. The two biggest issues seem to be speed and driver compatability. I know a few people who couldn't get their old printers to work on Vista computers.

I'm going to buy a new Kodak printer and i'll be sure to make sure it's Vista compatible.

FYI... and correct me if I'm wrong, but if you plan on upgrading to 4GB of RAM, the 32-bit version of Vista won't access all of it.

You are right, it can only do up to 3gig. I probably will still upgrade to 4gig at some point though.

I believe it's 3.5 gig, so not really that big a deal to miss out on half a gig considering how cheap ram is.

I too have vista(64) and have zero issues with it and wouldn't even consider going back to xp. I have to believe most of the vista problems came from early adopters when there was little in driver support and even less in MS support, plus people that don't have the horsepower to run vista.

xp had the same issues when it first came out. I remember hearing horror stories of people going back to 98

I'm getting the hang of Vista. Also dual booting XP which isn't a bad combination for the old games that don't play right.

You should have definitely seen if you could have gotten 64-bit. I'm trying to get my fingers on a nice 64-bit retail copy so that I can upgrade my motherboard, memory, and other inners. Good luck on your computer.

I'm running SP1 Evaluation Copy. It is much faster than the crappy Vista out of the box. I heard that they ran across a bug that is causing them to delay until the middle of March. Of course, businesses are complaining about the delay and want the SP1 to be released now. I say they iron out the bugs because I'm not in the mood to have problems fora few months and all.

I could have gotten the 64 bit but I've been told by several knowledgeable tech people to avoid it as it's not yet prime time ready and is somewhat buggy.

Not ready for prime time? Perhaps. Buggy? Nope.

Driver support isn't universal for vista64. You will run into things over 3 year old (and some new) that just won't work with it, but the vast majority of new stuff does.

All my software from my xp install works just fine in vista64. The only problem I ran into was my pvr350 tuner card(about 6 years old) had no driver and the maker said they weren't going to release one. Other than that, vista64 has been great for me.

BTW - I just configured the same exact PC from Dell and it's $500 more ($400 more if counting taxes.)
