Filter's Anthems for the Damned to be released in May

Filter is one of my favorite bands. I've actually been in the house where they recorded their first album "Short Bus". Looking forward to this album.

FILTER RETURNS WITH ’ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED’

FILTER RETURNS WITH 'ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED' DUE OUT THIS MAY

FIRST SINGLE "SOLDIERS OF MISFORTUNE" TO BE RELEASED LATER THIS MONTH

BAND TO PREVIEW NEW MUSIC AT SPECIAL PRE-RELEASE CALIFORNIA CLUB SHOWS BEGINNING MARCH 2

    FILTER is back.

After a five-year hiatus and a successful run with Army of Anyone, RICHARD PATRICK has reclaimed his legacy with FILTER for ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED, due out this May.

Produced by Josh Abraham (Slayer, 30 Seconds to Mars, Velvet Revolver, Staind, Courtney Love), PATRICK calls ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED his "howl in the night," a harsh indictment of civilization that doesn't exclude himself from its vision of a world falling apart.

The album's first single "Soldiers of Misfortune" will be released later this month. PATRICK describes the soaring anthem--with its U2/Bowie flavor and stacked backdrop of buzzing electric guitars--as a "sardonic anti-war/pro-troops song." The first-person narrative was inspired by a letter from a FILTER fan who had enlisted in the Army reserves to get his college tuition paid; in his final year of college, he was shipped off to Iraq where he died from a rocket attack and small arms fire after just a few days of duty.

FILTER will preview tracks from ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED alongside such FILTER classics as "Hey Man, Nice Shot," "Take a Picture" and others when they hit the road for special California club shows next month. The band will follow the shows with additional U.S. shows just prior to the album's release, mixing headlining shows, festival appearances and radio shows.

ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED features such collaborators as guitarist/songwriter John 5, guitarist Wes Borland and drummer Josh Freese and marks FILTER's first release in five years since The Amalgamut. Pointed and passionate, the new album traces PATRICK's own anger and shame with the state of things, from the intense alternative industrial blast of "The Take," "What's Next" and "Hatred is Contagious," the ultimate resignation of "Kill the Day" and "Lie After Lie" to the tentative hope expressed by "Only You" and the ambient soundscape of the closing "Can Stop This."

FILTER's club shows are as follows:

    DATE CITY VENUE

March 2 San Diego, CA The Casbah
    March 3 Orangevale, CA Boardwalk
March 4 San Francisco, CA Café DuNord

I might check this out. I used to LOVE "Take My Picture" back in the day.

Filter is my favorite band of all-time. This is great news.

Re: Filter's Anthems for the Damned to be released in May

I know that most people won't believe it since I don't have pictures, but a few years ago, I worked for a music website, doing reviews of albums and concerts. One of the shows they asked me to attend was Filter, which was one of my favorite bands at the time.

I went to the show with my buddy, and got to meet Geno Lenardo. He was one of the coolest, most laid back musicians that I have ever encountered, and he talked to us for about 20 minutes before Richard Patrick came out. As soon as Patrick was there, he was on his cell phone, claiming to be on the phone with MTV, and that MTV was "all over his nuts." This went on for about 15 minutes before he hung up, and then immediately, he left to go prep for the show. He promised to talk to me later though.

After the show, my buddy and I want back to meet up with RP, like we were supposed to, but sure enough, he didn't have time for us with all the women around. I never got my interview, wrote the weakest review for any band that I've ever seen, and trashed all their albums. The show was great, I still like the first album, but RP will always be just another douche in my eyes.

The first single "Soldiers of Misfortune" is up on Filter's myspace page.

It's ok, I guess. I rarely like a song the first time I hear it. Sounds like stuff from the last two albums. I was hoping they would go back to the "Short Bus" sound, but without Brian Liesgang, that's not going to happen.

Picked this album up yesterday. Only listened to about half. I think I like it better than The Amalgamut. I was hoping for a return to the Short Bus sound, but I don't think that will ever happen. Rich is too far removed from his NIN days for that.

I picked up this album a few days ago, still haven't listened to it. I really liked The Amalgamut, one of my favorite albums over the last decade.

I dunno the self-titled album was their best, just for the song "skinny". Amalgamut is right behind.

I've listened to the album a couple of times through now and I'm starting to dig it. Definitely better than the Amalgamut and closing in one Title of Record. Will never top Short Bus in my book. My favorite songs are: The Wake, Kill the Day, and The Take. Depending on what's going on this weekend, I might go check them out at the HOB in Cleveland.

Now, I keep trying to give Filter more and more chances, but I just can't get into them. I'm a little disappointed because I know musically they have talent and Richard Patrick is a good musician, but I just cannot get into any of the songs, either old or new.
