It's been brewing. The faster this mess gets sorted out, the faster people can make some money.

You make it sound frivolous but there's actually some legitimacy to this based on the report I just skimmed over.

Yeah, I can see the Cuban side, though it really all just comes down to Randy "quitting" his contract and trying to go somewhere else. They either need to resolve this or IMO Randy shouldn't do MMA stuff, even tv shows, for other promoters...You can't just go "Waaaa, I want out of my contract", you know?

You would think, but it that seems to work for NFL, NBA and MLB playrs

This is bad for UFC either way. The lawsuit will shine light on the horrible, shady UFC fighter contracts even if they win this. It'll also let fighters see that there is another MMA org with a serious backer in cuban.

I'm obviously not a lawyer or anything, but this is nice PR by Cuban, both to big name fighters, and to the MMA community.

They don't go play in another league while under contract to the first league.

Ricky Williams needed permission from the NFL while he was suspended to play in the CFL.

I'm tired and when I read the title, I thought it said "Mark Cuban sees UFO over fighter"

only because the nfl colluded with the CFL and made it so the CFL won't go after suspended NFL players. If the CFL was based in America, that'd be against the law.

The issue is that UFC contracts appear to be one sided and contain things that are exploitative.

Have you ever heard of non-compete clauses? At my company, if I were to quit right at this moment, I could not work at another company in this field for 6 months...

and? Couture had a one year no compete clause. That's not the issue, he's even said he'd wait that out. He had an 4 fight and 18 month employment contract. The UFC froze the contract when he left, and state he can't go anywhere else, even after the 18 months of the contract are up and one year of the no compete clause passes.

I believe Fedor said that a big reason why he didn't sign with the UFC was because they have a contract stipulation that extends fighter contracts automatically if they keep winning or are are a champion. Extending it means they get the same amount of money they had negotiated at the start of the contract.

I looked it up, and I found an article about it here...

Couture chose to "resign" for a reason, as opposed to retire. The UFC clauses are restrictive and this lawsuit is an attempt to clarify their legality, or at least shine a light on their fairness. Cuban has even said he is interested in having the Ali Act apply to MMA, something that article above mentions too.
