ASUS P5NE-SLI motherboard - SP/DIF digital out not working

Hey all, I recently got a new computer from AVADirect and while I was waiting I bought a coax cable to connect my computer to my stereo receiver while I waited. Well i got my PC and hooked up the COAX out on the ASUS motherboard (P5NE-SLI) and then connected the other end to my coax in on my stereo but I get no sound.

I've searched around the net and this seems to be a somewhat common issue with all kinds of crazy results depending upon the operating system. I'm using VIsta Premium 32 bit. Does anyone know what I need to do to get the COAX out to work? I have checked in the Sound settings of Windows and it is enabled. I see no meter movement though (like the green meter moves when you play sound) like I do for the analog outs, which all work btw.

Any ideas? Does anyone here have this motherboard and the COAX out works for them?

Do you have something like soundmax or some other audio/volume control software installed? There may be a setting in there you have to change to enable digital out.

Yeah I do have that installed. I poked around in there and there was not much to that software. I am pretty sure I did see an option to enable it and it was checkmarked. The computer says the port is working fine but just get no sound. I was told by my PC company to get updated drivers from ASUS which i'm going to try but the forum for ASUS is filled with people asking about this and no real answer so I'm not sure if it'll fix it or not.

I did get the SP/DIF on the motherboard to work. I had to go into sound settings, choose digital HD as the default device and then just test each setting (dolby digital, DTS, etc) until it found the ones that my stereo liked.
