    LCD HDTV

    Westinghouse TX-42F430S

    Insignia NS-LCD42HD

Which of these two do you guys think would be best to go with?

I'm just looking for something for my PS3 and blu ray movies. I don't think i'll be using it to watch tv on. Not right now at least.

Any of you guys that have LCD tv's have any thoughts on how you like them for gaming and movies?

    Re: LCD HDTV

If I were you, I'd read through both these threads to get opinion from owners of the TVs:

NOTE: We are currently compiling a list of known bugs/problems with the TX line to send off to Westinghouse. Below you will find what we have so far. Please feel free to provide your feedback by posting to the thread. CONFIRMED ISSUES WITH THE TX SERIES 1) 5.1 DD Via Internal Tuner (Both QAM...

I saw this set at best buy and am looking very seriously at it. At only a grand, it seems pretty amazing. It had a very nice picture in the store, but I know never to trust what you see on a TV at the store. I am a DLP fan, but I can't find a DLP that is 1080p around $1,000. Another thread...

From just looking at what Best Buy says, both TVs look to be very similar, so I'd go off of owner opinions. The Insignia does have a slightly better contrast ratio and speaker wattage, but it is only very slightly. But the Westinghouse has 4 HDMI inputs compared to only two on the Insignia. That's pretty important depending on what all you are going to use the TV for.

I personally have a Westinghouse (just a 27" 720p/1080i set) and haven't had any problems with it.

I would never buy anything this expensive without finding every review I can to make sure I'm confident with shelling out the cash for it.

Based on specs alone I would go with the Westinghouse. The contrast ratio of the Insignia seems to be its only real plus, and it is only 1200:1 compared to 1000:1. You wont really notice the difference there. Also, the Westinghouse has 4 HDMI inputs, which makes it pretty future proof.

Either way there both 1080p so you should be getting a great picture.

        Re: LCD HDTV

I don't use anything for HDMI really, but I will connect my PS3 that way. The current 360 I have doesn't have the HDMI connection either.

I was actually reading through the AVS forum and those guys seem to have better things to say about the insignia than the Westinghouse which i was leaning more towards.

KDRE: do NOT buy the Insignia. They are one of the worst tv's on the market. You could also look at the 42" Vizio that Wal-Mart, CC, and Sears carry. Much better quality for about $100 more.

KDRE - I purchased that very same Insignia back in January from Best Buy. I have HD hooked to it, my PS3 hooked to it using an HDMI cable and my 360 hooked to it using my component cables and everything looks SUPERB on it and I haven't been disappointed with it. Hope this helps ya out.

Apparently pretty crappy ones with firmware updates that give you a picture viewer instead of fixing the bugs.

I've just heard bad things about Insignia. I also remember seeing an article where CNET said gave them the award of worst LCD's.

You set on LCD? What about plasma? Feel the need to get 1080 or 720 ok?

I have a plasma already. Cnets review looked alright to me... not the older models. I think the older models had issues.

KDRE, it looks like that one is indeed made by LG. I was just going off what I had heard about the Insignias in the past. Have you looked at the picture in person? If you like it, I say go for it.

KDRE, make sure you check the Response Time. This will help with lag during both Gaming & Movie watching.

I heard the older models werent anymore good than those Westinghouse ones, but I'll be checking this one out this weekend.

Is that possible looking at a display with a demo running on it?

Do any of you guys have plasma's? Have you hung them on the wall and is it true that they lose life when you hang them?

I'm thinking of selling my rptv in the living room and putting the plasma there from my bedroom and just keep the LCD (went with the Insignia btw) as my bedroom tv.
