I bought it and watched it myself yesterday. Of course, I've seen it before (long ago actually, back last summer) and it looked great. It definitely boasted some colors to a high gamma contrast, which during the first few bright scenes made it nice and vibrant, which was cool. I'm 24/7 quiet hours in the dorm so I couldn't blast it, so I don't know how excellent it sounds.

I love the movie, though. It's a better version of Shoot 'Em Up when it comes to "just kicking ***," especially when it has a better storyline with it. I wish I had scene this in theaters just to cheer during some cheerable moments with the audience.

I'm still surprised this movie wasn't rated R, though. Forget the gun battle, the elements that make up this movie alone are simply not for 13-year-old children to be watching, even I'll admit that. No matter... it's up to the parents to decide whether they watch it in the end anyway, right?

EDIT: BTW I just want to punch the mom in the face every time she retorted with what Neeson had to say. All of this was her own damn fault.

Picked up 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly' on Blu the other day, and my oh my does it look fantastic. For a movie made in the 60's, it blew me away. I already owned the extended version on DVD (which is the version on Blu), and it adds a whole new layer to the movie. It's a tad distracting hearing an aged Wallach voice over scenes with Tuco, but aside from that, the added scenes are great.

        Highly recommended.

I rent Taken on DVD for $1. Very good action flick so I'll be picking it up on blu ray when it drops in price some. Have yet to watch the new Punisher movie on blu so that's on tonight's agenda.

I loved the first 2 Underworld movies, but was not a fan of Rise of the Lycans.

              Silly question...

How much in a drop off in quality will I experience with Component Cables vs HDMI?

That's one of the reasons I'm holding off on a BluRay player, my HDTV lacks HDMI outlets.

How big is your tv? In all honesty, you really shouldn't see a drop in picture quality. Where you'll run into trouble is lossless audio...that can't be done without HDMI.

Even with very modest audio equipment, I can tell a very big difference between lossless audio and the standard Dolby Digital.

It's a 21 or 22 inch Samsung somewhere around there.

Component cables should be fine. Although, the main reason for going with blu ray is to enjoy the improved PQ on a big screen. You won't really see the glory that is blu ray until you get up to 32+ inches, IMO.

So you are telling me that the picture wouldn't be that much better between a regular DVD and a BluRay disk on my TV?

You'll see a better picture with more details, but not sure you'll get that wow factor.

I've had the Canadian import of Sin City and it's quite good. Apparently the US Version is much better (in the audio department) so you should be in for a treat.
