Surround sound setup
So I have my surround sound system hooked up all fine but I want my PS3 games to come out of that system..Do I need to get an adapter (this SS is older so its got all the AV color plugs/S-Video) so I can plug my HDMI sound/video into it, if there is such a thing? I'll take a pic of the back of my surround sound console if theres any confusionAaron

Re: Surround sound setup
There's no HDMI to composite adaptor and the only HDMI to component adaptor I've heard of is for PC and has HDCP built in that will thwart your efforts. So I have my surround sound system hooked up all fine but I want my PS3 games to come out of that system..Do I need to get an adapter (this SS is older so its got all the AV color plugs/S-Video) so I can plug my HDMI sound/video into it, if there is such a thing? Why not connect via component(blue/yellow/green) for video and toslink or spdif(optical or coax) for the sound?PS3/PS4 BradCompany -

Component as good as HDMI? I thought those plugs lost detail compared to S-Video etc.Aaron

Re: Surround sound setup
If you have a optical audio input on your system, you can do what I do and use the HDMI connected from the PS3 to the TV for the PS3 video, but also have a optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver for your multi-channel sound since older receivers don't have HDMI switching for the sound.Last edited by aukevin; 03-04-2008, 03:13 PM.

Re: Surround sound setup
That is exactly what I wa going to ask. I am about to go get a ps3. I shoudl use hdmi for the video connection right? I have an optical cabel I have been using for my 360 audio.
If I am primarily going to play the show, is the surround sound audio even that big of a deal?Comment
