On YES it looked like the 2nd pitch (the one he fouled off) mighta had a chance to bloop in for a single. Woulda been priceless but I'm also glad he failed. We don't need a trend to start from this and turn spring training into a circus.

It's only Spring Training and this is no more of a circus than the White Sox entertained with Michael Jordan.

You seriously don't see a difference? Just wondering...I mean MJ was the greatest basketball player of all time, and was still in his prime. Billy Crystal has never been a pro athlete and is 60...

          Just saying...

I don't really care, it's only spring training, but to say it's no more a circus than Jordan is crazy. You can argue Jordan had a somewhat legit reason to be there, whereas Crystal you can't justify that, at least not athletically.

I see the difference, but at the end of the day MJ was never going to be a MLB caliber player and we all knew that. So in reality MJ was taking up a fairly valuable roster spot in the Minors to entertain his childhood fantasy. I know he killed any chance he had when he refused to be a scab, but lets be honest, is this really that different?

I knew some people who thought he'd make the team I laughed at them, but they expected MJ to be on the Sox.

Like I said, I don't care, but MJ had a shot to be on the team, being an elite athlete. Billy, while a great story, you figured he might not even make contact. Honestly, i'm just glad he didn't get seriously injured.

They are both media stories alone though...I don't care, if they want the press go for it, but just find it kinda dumb (both cases).

I think you guys are missing the point a bit. I think a far more apt comparison would be to compare this stunt to Garth Brooks when he hung out at ST for the Padres and I think one other team.

I love the tools in the background chirpin' at him like he's an actual player at the plate ("sit down where you belong"). Man.....it's one at bat at one exhibition game. It's not like it's going to make or break their season.

Garth Brooks was to raise money for charity. not sure which one though. He has played with three teams in three (I think) springs. SD, NYM, and KC.
Touch em' all foundation I think.
Yesterday or the day before they talked about it on Mike and Mike. He was 2 for 47 hitting.

Billy Crystal appearence was kind of cool. He has been about the biggest Yankee fan. Always talks about going to Yankee Stadium. something like 50 years ago.
I saw some video on youtube and it was also on the evening news. He didn't look so bad for a almost 60 year old.

Billy Crystal was an all-state baseball player in his highschool days so I don't see this as a bad thing either.

Anyone remember when Ahmad Rashad (Bobby Moore) played for the Sixers during a preseason game? That was cool.

That's a little different though as he was a very good WR for the Vikings and Bills back in the 70s/early 80s

Well since we're on that vein I remember Master P playing some preseason with the Raptors. The poor guy thought he should've been signed to a contract and play the season with them!

he did play in the CBA for a number of years.

                              This is from Wiki:

                              Basketball Career
He had a contract with NBA teams twice - with the Charlotte Hornets during the 1998/99 season and the Toronto Raptors in 1999 pre-season.[10][11] He was waived a few weeks after signing in both cases and he has not played in a regular season NBA game.[12] He also played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) for Fort Wayne Fury. He joined the 2008 McDonald's NBA All-Star Celebrity Game and scored 17 points in total, hitting two crucial free throws at the end to win the game. [13]

Must be nice to have it all. Rich, famous, get to live out a childhood dream. At least Billy is about as likable as anyone your gonna find in Hollywood. He seems to be a lot more humble than most movie stars.
