Re: Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple
I've seen GB tagged as "neo-soul;" whatever that is, but I look forward to the day when all this over-produced, bubble gum music gets striped down a great deal.
Anyway, this week has been interesting. The Raconteurs and Gnarls Barkley both announce immediate, surprise releases of their new albums - next week is gonna RAWK!

Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Co-F'n sign! I was trying to tell everyone that last year I looved that album
Yep.
I've had the new album for about two weeks now, and I like it, but not as much as the first one. "No Time Soon" is one song that just sounds so beautiful to me, I cannot stop listening to it. I just keep singing "And it would be perfect baaaby"Always looking for solid CF25 Dynasty owners, follow the link to get started >> PS5 P5 Dynasty DiscordComment

Re: Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple
How long is the new album?
One problem I had with St. Elsewhere was its relatively short run-time; after listening to it in the car for about 7-10 days, the second half of the album started running together.

Re: Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple
It's kind of ironic that GB is releasing an album shortly after a long, impassioned and pretty well-reasoned thread appeared here talking about why hard rock doesn't appeal to many members of the black community and why so many suburban white kids like hip-hop.
Many of us agreed, at least from the white suburban perspective, that image played a big role why upper-middle class white kids liked hip-hop and rap. They wanted that harder image. And most in the black community agreed that hard rock wasn't appealing because it's not great dance music, and dance is a crucial part of the black community's social life.
But GB is making truly barrier-crossing music with its potpourri of genres and styles mixed into each tune. I know whites and blacks who think GB is far out, and image has little or nothing to do with it. They just think it's very cool music, and that's very, very encouraging.
I can't stand rap, and I'm not into hip-hop, but GB just clicks with me. Maybe it's because I really like soul and gospel along with rock and jazz, and I can hear bits and bobs of all that in various GB songs.
Take care,

Re: Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple
I gave this a spin today and color me unimpressed with this album. Aside from a couple tracks, the album sounds like left-overs that just didn't fit with the quality and flow of St. Elsewhere. Cee-Lo's ramblings make even less sense on this album than before and his vocals just sound uninspired. Danger Mouse's production doesn't even feel like he did the beats - they just feel too restricted to be Mouse beats. The second half of the album does get a little better, especially with the beat, but the album as a whole is definitely not on the same level as St. Elsewhere.

not as good as St. Elsewhere, but still a good album. Favorite song right now is "Going On".Lux y VeritasComment
