Just got Comcast TiVo...

...And boy is it so much better than Comcast's DVR software.

All the (Comcast) technician had to do is come here (they want him at your house in case something screws up) and call a guy at a computer back at "dispatch", who tells the box via the cable lines to download and update the software to the TiVo service. Under an hour later (we had 2 DVRs to do this to), and you now have TiVo!

Anyone else enjoying TiVo from Comcast?

Tivo, last year, announced that they would be partnering with Comcast. Like DirectTV did with Tivo before they thought they could do a DVR better.

What makes the Tivo service better then the regular DVR through Comcast? As long as it records Im happy so obviously Im not tech savy to the differences between the two services so if there is any chance you can give a brief run down that would be much appreciated.

LOL, so in other words, for a an extra 29.99, you can get the name TIVO on your cable box. Damn Comcast, all they do is try to get your money.

And I find it funny they are using the easy-to-use interface as a selling point. Anyone else find it hard to go to a specific channel and press the button with the red circle on it?

Unless this is free (if you have a DVR with them) this is just another one of their scams to get you to pay more for their services.

Also does anyone know (which can be a selling point to some) if they increase the amount of storage you have? When I checked the site, they stated Comcast DVD with TIVO. So it's an added feature with the DVR service.

Why don't you check out the features/benefits of the TiVo service before you start calling it a scam.

I tried out the Comcast DVR, used it for a week. Called Comcast & told them to remove this piece of hot garbage from my life. The Comcast DVR is a total joke compared to TiVo, not even in the same ballpark.

I tried out the Comcast DVR, used it for a week. Called Comcast & told them to remove this piece of hot garbage from my life. The Comcast DVR is a total joke compared to TiVo, not even in the same ballpark.

I've had both and while Tivo's interface is prettier with all of it's colors, the core service (being able to record shows) is the same as DVR's. One thing that looked good is that you can search On-Demand with it but that's still not enough of a selling point to warrant a switch for me.

TiVo allows so much more regarding features & benefits. You can:

-select video quality (allowing for recording certain shows in different quality formats, saving spare/extending the HDD capacity)

-Start recording early or add on time at the end of a recording, great for live events like sports.

-The TiVo Season Pass feature works ALL of the time, its not a hit-and-miss feature like Comcast's is

-Downloadable content from services like Amazon.com

-I network both of my TiVo's together, and connect them to my PC Home Network. I can share shows among multiple TiVo boxes......AND have the ability to download a torrent file from the internet (for free) and watch it directly on my TiVo.

-Essentially, I can download any new movie/TV show/soccer game for free (albiet illegally) and watch it on my TiVo.


Comcast DVR is garbage compared to TiVo. Does Comcast support multi-room viewing? Can you add your own expanded HDD to a Comcast DVR (I have a 320GB HDD in my TiVo). Can you network a Comcast DVR to your PC? Can you count on the Comcast DVR to have the most up-to-date program info & not miss automatically recording your shows for you?

Royce, You should send that write-up to Comcast to post on their website because that is much better than the garbage they have up there. Reading all of that stuff makes me a believer that it is better.

It's costing us $5 more (total, for 2 boxes) a month for the TiVo service than it did for the standard Comcast service. I don't know why people think I got "scammed" out of my money. (Not you, Candy)

It's not a full-blown TiVo (obviously), but the added features like Season Pass working all the time (TiVo knows your recording, say, CSI, as opposed to the Comcast service just recording a time-slot), the ability to have Season Pass record in HD automatically if it's available, the fact that TiVo can learn what you like and make recommendations based on that, and probably the most convenient thing (to me) is that the search feature searches through the TV listings PLUS On Demand listings, which is really handy.

Well worth the extra $5 a month, IMO. If you can get this in your area (I think they're rolling it out slowly to catch whatever bugs pop up.), I'd definitely check it out at least.

So just say that I have the Triple Play with Comcast and I wanted to add this Tivo feature to the mix. How much would that run me more a month? Been looking for a recording thing that would record a lot of those sports games I'm missing out on as well as some shows I'm interested in. If the Triple Play is $120, how much more would I be paying per month?

Its only available in New England folks. Wont be available around the country until late 08.
