    Replacing Power Supply

Recently my power supply fan has been making horrible noises...culminating today when it sounded like a plane was taking off. I checked my CPU temp, and it was 55 degrees C and rising when its not supposed to be above 50. So needless to say I need to replace my power supply.

I plan on doing it myself as the removal and installation doesnt look to complicated..and I dont really feel like spending a lot of money to have it repaired professionally.

My question is...I had a 375 W supply..but I had a lot of trouble finding another one. I found a 400 W one. If i use a supply any more than 375 W, will that blow out the computer, or is it fine to use whatever power I can? My old supply said "Max continuous output shall not exceed 375W" but I dont know if that means that the supply wont output any more than that or if the computer can't output any more than 375 W of power.

    Help??

    Re: Replacing Power Supply

You can use any standard power supply, the watts is the max output and you need a number high enough to supply everything in your computer. 400 or 450 is fine for most standard computers, good graphics cards and a lot of hard drives and other devices require more if you run all of them at the same time.

Yeah don't make the mistake I made installing 3 hard drives, 2 cd roms, and a graphics card to boot on a 250 watt supply. It ran for quite awhile and then one day...smokey! smokey!
