Alright, so I've been having this problem with Microsoft Vista...

I'm unable to connect to the internet via wifi or wired connections, because my WAN miniport (PPTP) driver is screwed up. Or lost. Whatever.

Despite the fact my tech problems have been very rarely solved via this forum, I need help (again).

Pretty please with sugar on top. Google has failed me.

Are you sure it's a Vista problem? Is it a constant issue or intermittent? I have Vista (Dell made me take it or else I had to pay extra to have XP put in) and haven't had too many issues. I do have internet problems sometimes but I think it's more my cable modem than anything else. I do wonder if the Windows Firewall causes these problems at times though.

I am on vista right now. What type of wireless internet adapter are you using? I was using a old netgear wg311v1, thus I just installed astheros communication drivers and it worked. I just went through the list until I found one that worked.

It's been a constant issue. Under Network Adapters, it says Broadcom 802.11g and a broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet. The second is disabled, but when I enable it, I still can't connect.

Whenever I try to manually look for a WAN Miniport driver, it says the file cannot be found.

Try to download these drivers if you have an available computer and see if they help.

For whatever reason, I can't connect to ftp urls on this computer. So, if you can upload that to a site, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hope that helps. You will have to use winrar to extract, because executables files can't be uploaded.

I'd hate to hijack a thread but I'm having a similar problem on my laptop but on Windows XP. For weeks everything has been working just fine until last week. Now I keep losing my wireless connection. I haven't changed anything in my condo, I haven't added anything wireless but yet I'm losing my connection. My desktop that is directly connected to my wireless gateway works just fine. I bought a new Linksys wireless card thinking maybe my USB wireless adapter was going bad because it is constantly getting hot but that hasn't helped any. When I finally do connect I get a pretty poor signal and slow speed. I took the laptop in to the bedroom one room over from where the gateway is and the same thing has happened. What could be going on here?

Try changing the channel of the wireless router. Maybe someone else added a wireless router as well and you're getting interference.

How do you do that? I've been having this problem as well.

Log into the router, usually by putting 192.168.1.1 in your web browser and then putting in the password. Then you can go to the wireless properties and change the wireless channel. The default is 6, you should change it to either 1 or 11.
