Are there any Kiss fans here at OS?

I'm a huge Kiss fan who was into them when I was younger and I've recently just gotten back into them. For a while I wasn't really into Kiss because I guess as a huge fan growing up I felt like I had grown beyond them but now I'm rediscovering them. For a long time I felt like I was way past their music in regards to it is mostly simple rock anthems and not very complex. However, they were great theatrical artists, their power is way beyond music in that sense.

I realize now a big part of the reason I loved them was the fact I viewed them as sort of comic book type heroes. I'm just wondering if there are any other fellow Kiss fans here at OS? I'm going to see Ace Frehley here in Richmond at the beginning of May and i'm pretty excited about it.

I'm a fan of theirs but not one of the rabid ones like the guy in the link below. I went to middle school with this guy and havent talked to him in over 10 years and a friend showed me this link. I saw them live when they were on tour with Aerosmith and blew them out of the water performance wise. Favorite song is Duece. If I had the chance I'd pay through the nose to see them live again.

I'm a huge Kiss fan but im more partial to the Alive songs then in-studio with my favourite being Black Diamond. The theatrics are a big part of why im a fan, they definitley wouldnt be the same with out the larger than life personas.

Agreed, I was just a fan of their music before seeing them live. Once I saw their live show I got into them much more.

I can identify. I grew up listening to Kiss and I think what you described was a big reason why.

The main reason I'm responding to this thread is to state that Kiss's non-inclusion is probably the biggest reason that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the total joke that it is. Madonna in, Kiss out. Yeah, that makes a whole lot of sense.

I think if the HOF ever wises up and inducts Kiss, they should flatly turn them down and celebrate by playing the largest, loudest, absolute raging fireball of a concert on the exact opposite end of the Earth from Cleveland, Ohio. Wherever that is.

I honestly think Kiss would turn them down at this point. The HOF is a complete joke, and to be fair, they'd have to play the concert on the opposite end of the world from New York, since they don't induct them here.

The opposite end of Cleveland would probably be Heaven

For the influences alone, Kiss belongs in he HOF no question. They changed live concerts, made them bigger than life and probably influenced more bands than we even know.

I was always the different one from all my friends when I was younger in the fact that they all idolized Gene Simmons whereas I always liked Ace the best. Btw I got tickets to see Ace Frehley here in Richmond, VA on May 2nd!

Having read Gene Simmons book Kiss and Makeup I think he really sells Ace and Peter short in what they brought to the band. But with that being said, if even half of what he says was true about their drinking and drug abuse, it's a miracle both of those guys are even alive today, let alone successful on their own without Kiss.

The Rock and Roll HOF is a ridiculous organization. They induct people that are popular that may not have even had any impact on rock and roll itself. Madonna? Really? They are many bands more deserving than Madonna. Rush and Kiss come to mind, among others.

Of course Kiss deserve to be in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall.Sure maybe they were only a GREAT band for 4 years,but they were one of the most popular and influential bands at that time.

Well, in my opinion they were a great band for a little longer than that, i'd say 1974 to 1980 were by far their best years, especially considering that was when they had their makeup on, had all their cool theatrics, and most importantly had all of their original members with their great personalities that offered something to everyone depending upon what music style and personality you liked. However you cannot forget about their music they made in the post-frehley/criss/makeup era as well.

After Lick It Up came out they had quite a bit of good music and a lot of popularity as well (albeit never as much as their makeup era). Personally I don't feel it was the same, it was like they were a great rock band without the makeup and Ace and Peter but not much more than that, whereas with Ace & Peter and their makeup they were a force much greater than simply good music, they were the complete package of larger than life Rock Gods. If you were only a Kiss fan for the music though, and not the personalities, theatrics, the post-makeup era yielded really high quality music, just like their makeup days did.

You're thinking about it the wrong way if you don't think Madonna deserves to be in. For God's sake, she's the most successful female recording artist in world history. Most people mention her in the same breath as Michael Jackson and Elvis.

On topic, yeah, I think Kiss is cool. Never really been a "fan" in the strict sense, though I did play "Strutter" on the jukebox at the bar the other night.
