The same thing happens every generation. There's a book called "The Way of Duty" that's a collection of letters and diary entries from a woman who lived during the American Revolution and they were saying the exact same things that people are saying now. They complained that their kids weren't going to church enough and that they weren't as respectful to their parents. It'll never change. The same thing happens when people choose to blame music or entertainment for society's problems. Nowadays it's rap, a couple decades ago it was rock, before that it was original rock and roll, before that it was jazz, it's all a cycle. There will always be something new to blame whatever is going on in society and older people will always believe that the way that they were raised was tougher and/or a better time.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :) -

Never.
My parents didn't believe in grounding me, didn't believe in taking my toys away, didn't believe in hitting me, etc. etc.
They knew that if I was acting up and they did something like that, it wouldn't stop me, and it would probably just make me worse, which it would have. Take something away from me and I'm going to want it more, hit me because of something and I'm not only still going to do it, but I'm going to learn to do it better so they don't catch me, or bigger to give them a reason to hit.
However, since they never did, I never acted up.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

I'll just put it this way, my family owns a cable TV business that has its customers in a retirement home. We're talking people 60+. You wouldn't believe how many of these people attempt to steal cable and how many of them lie about it even when they're caught red handed.Comment

Maybe I am misunderstood by you. Religion instilled in a kid if he chooses to follow it, can build good moral character. But lack of it is not the reason these kids are going mad. It's overall lack of character being taught to them by their parents. It comes down to either 1 of 2 things. a) The parents don't care. unfortunately this is the main one in the inner cities. a combination of immaturity, poverty, and other things have just removed all desire to be a good parent from many inner city people. b) The parents or single parent, is working too much and isnt there enough for their kid. Unfortunately with the economy the way it is, this problem is never gonna change. Making $40,000 a year isn't enough to own a house in some areas of the country right now. Not if you factor in other costs of living. (electricity, water, heat, transportation to work) so while parents are never there, trying to pay for their wonderful dream house that they basically only get to sleep in after working 2 jobs. Or a single parent, working 2 jobs just to be able to have her and her kids survive the next month. These behavior problems in kids is a direct result of lack of parent involvement. Not always is it the fault of the parent, in some cases as i mentioned before it is impossible.Comment

Once they are in this perdicament, there is no easy or fast fix. Like you said alot of these people don't even know how to be parents because they never had an example themselves. And its just gettuing worse. Sure you can cite examples from the past where a generation said the next generation was more disrespectful, etc. But family values in this country are eroding at an accelerated pace. The % of homes where there are children with one parent is staggering. And then if you look into how that 1 parent is behaving its downright depressing. And then it all starts over again because thats all these kids know. Now throw in the fact that teachers and other used to be authority figures are powerless to give the discipline that the parents should be adminitering, you now have kids that have no parent to look up to and no discipline to create boundaries of behavior.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Third Graders Accused of Plotting to Hurt Their Teacher
I would say that 90% of the time a series of bad decisions lead a person to being a single parent. People should really know the other person before they rush into marriage only to get divorced or worse yet, just rush into bed only to create a life that they can't properly care for. Then unfortunately the cycle continues.

Re: Third Graders Accused of Plotting to Hurt Their Teacher
I work in a school. I see all the time kids talking back to the teachers, saying "you ain't my mom/dad. your (rhymes with witch) *** can't tell me what to do". Yes this is how they talk. 6th 7th & 8th graders. Administration does nothing even if the teacher recommends them for suspension because they don't want attendance rates to drop or they lose funding. Meanwhile they wouldn't even show their own parents the respect if they did ask them something because they have never been disciplined before.

Re: Third Graders Accused of Plotting to Hurt Their Teacher
I'm just like Longhorn, never grounded or hit. I just knew what was wrong and not to do what was wrong. I was and still am (18 high school senior), given a hell of a lot of freedom, but I haven't ****ed up yet so my parents have no reason to take it away. Kids got to start taking responsibility for their actions early on and feel guilty. It comes down to someone's personality, as to whether they are going to follow authority or not. I think I'm pretty good kid, who gets pretty good grades, and I wasn't spanked and I definitely wasn't indoctrinated with religion early on life (thank god for that, no pun intended).Comment
