    The Illusionist

Just finished watching the movie. I have to say i was awed. A little disappointed that we didn't exactly find out how he did his tricks, but nevertheless the movie was pretty imaginative. The scenery was great as well.

I had the movie in my collection for sometime now, i just failed to watch it in a prompt time. I saw The Prestige last year, I loved the Prestige and the fact that both movies deal with the same subject intrigued me. I had heard that The Prestige was better though. But after viewing both movies, they really don't fit in the same light.

Their both similar but very different at the same time. I liked that The Prestige was about their rivalry and their aim to out do one another. When i read the synopsis for this though and it focused on the love aspect when turned me off. However the end result was priceless.

Theres one thing i don't understand though, The prince was the son of the Emperor; why did he want to over throw him when he could of just become emperor after his father's death?

I know this shouldn't be a comparison thread, but i thought The Illusionist had a much better ending/twist. I didn't like the revelation of the last trick in The Prestige (you'll know what i mean when you watch it. However don't get me wrong on Christian Bale's twist though ) It took the whole concept of the movie and kind of turned it upside down. Yet The Illusionist had a more down to earth twist. Although like i mentioned before, the movie lacked giving us an explantation on his Illusions which is fine, but The Prestige did a great job of keeping the entire movie as real as possible until the very end.

In conclusion, I recommend anyone who liked the Prestige to see The Illusionist or vice versa. I just feel bad that it took me this long to finally watch it though.

    Re: The Illusionist

Just finally picked this one up about a week ago and I absolutly loved it. I thought it was a tad better than The Prestige.

I saw both, and I loved The Prestige so much more. Both had all star casts, but in the end, one felt like it was more fantasy while the other felt like it was just darker. I prefer the darker one.

I see what you mean, The Prestige did have a more darker tone than The Illusionist. I really would of liked to know the secrets behind his tricks in the Illusionist, i guess that what gave the movie more of a fantasy feeling because we were never really told that his tricks were fake.

The Illusionist more fantasy laden than The Prestige? I thought of them as just the opposite. The only thing that had to be truly manipulated (so to speak) in The Illusionist was the heart pendant that he made for her. You couldn't have it turn and fold/unfold without ripping the picture. If you watch, there are cutscenes seperating how he opens the pendant.
