Lotta Chris Farley, I did not find that guy funny. Ehhh, not a good list imo. Some of the skits are funny, but to not have some of the early stuff in is silly.
    PS: You guys are great.

The one I agree with is More Cowbell. Probably my favorite skit ever. There were also funnier Celebrity Jeopardy skits than that.

Heh, my favorite one is probably the Brian Fellow's Safari Planet with The Rock. I don't know what it is, but I absolutely die every time I see this one. There are a thousand better SNL sketches over the years, but there's something about it that makes me totally lose my mind.

        "I'm Brian Fellow!"

        "No YOU ARE NOT!"

        .."That bird is a liar!"

        Other favorites of mine:

Will Ferrell playing the drifter art model "Oops, looks like someone woke the baby!"
        Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer
        Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood
        Gotta Have More Cowbell
        Alec Baldwin and Canteen Boy
        Van Down By the River
Akroyd playing the guy with the terribly dangerous toys (forget his name) "Bag o' Broken Glass" and all that
        Samurai Dry Cleaners
Celebrity Jeopardy ("I'll the The Rapists for $800")

The commercial spoofs are always hilarious, but my favorites are the ones about the 100% Horse Glue, the car for crazy people (both with Ferrell), the recent one about the birth control that makes women only have 2 periods a year (When it comes, hold on to your ****ing hat!), and the gay beer commercial with Sandler/Farley.

I agree. You could easily make a Top 11 from just the original cast + Bill Murray's run. If you throw in the next crew with Eddie Murphy and Billy Crystal you would be done through Top 20. In my opinion to really appreciate something you have to look at things in the context of their time...SNL in the mid 70's was to TV what the Beatles were to music in the mid 60's....a phenomenon that completely revolutionized the genre.

the "modern era" has had some really funny CLASSIC skits, but they dont "compare" to the originals.

Will Ferrell has to be one of the funniest SOBs ever on that show. The show hasnt been the same since he left.

he had so much funny stuff imo...from "cowbell", to "jeopardy", to "Robert Goulet", to "Harry Carey", on and on

lol ive got a decent "Will Ferrell does Harry Carey" impression, but it isnt as good as this guy's (and he is in the middle of a war zone in Iraq)...You know him Squint? (stupid question i know, considering there is a hundred thousand over there)

I thought Farley was an unfunny buffoon. One of his most famous skits, The Chippendale one with P.Swayze, was more disgusting then funny, although Swayze's worried reaction to possibly losing out was humorous.

                  to each their own

I thought Farley was hilarious. His interview with Paul McCartney was classic

Hahaha, oh god yes, I forgot all about the Harry Carray episode with Jeff Goldblum -- that one is one of my all-time favorites also:

"It's a simple question, Professor. If you were a hot dog, would you eat yourself?"

EDIT: I love Farley, though he wasn't one of my top cast members (Belushi, Ferrell) -- the guy was naturally funny, but I agree that they sometimes just needed an excitable fat guy to jump through things... and that was Chris. When he was just yelling and jumping through tables, it wasn't the funniest -- that McCartney interview is probably the best example of the more subdued Chris that I really liked.

Farley started off simply horrible, but the writing for him saved him. But I agree, you can get a top 20 in the first few years.

Now who had the better cast overall?

Hmm, that's a good question. It's very hard to front on the original cast. Aside from them, I'd vote for the 94-95 era when Ferrell was just starting and the big ones from before were just leaving (Carvey, Myers, Hartman, Sandler, Farley). That early 90's cast can't be rivaled in terms of star power and overall talent, I'd say -- almost all of them turned out to be big comedians or movie stars.

My favorite cast was the one with Ferrell, O'teri, Anna Gasteyer, Kattan, Morgan and those guys. Loved that late 90's-early 2000 era.

One of my favorite skits though was an X-Police one that had them breaking into the house of a couple who were smoking marijuana.

Since the original, I didn't think anyone topped Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks et al. So many go to people in that cast.

                            And not to forget:
