    EA paid him $25000 per day to work on Triple Play 2002 (plus a 6-figure flat fee). He'd only do recordings in St. Louis, and it had to be in a very specific studio. Then he'd bail after 3 hours because he had to take his kid to baseball practice or something. The next year, he hemmed and hawed for months (or more precisely, his agent hemmed and hawed, because it was nigh-impossible to get through to Costas himself), then finally he walked away from his 3-year contract with us, leaving us scrambling to come up with last-minute replacement play-by-play (we ended up using the Giants guys) for MVP 2003.

      I saw the Bissinger-Leitch-Edwards segment on Deadspin, and Costas was surprisingly balanced as host. But I still think he's an insufferable megalomaniac who is very overrated.
