Anyone see it yet? It any good? Might see it once it hits DVD. Looks a little to colorful for my taste though

I wasn't too sure about it when I first saw the previews. Don't like the Wajchowski (sp?) Brothers, I thought the graphics looked too over bearing, and I didn't think it would be able to live up to the cartoon (good story, but still has it's corny moments too), but since it has a great cast, I thought I would give it a chance, so I saw it this afternoon.
All I can say is AMAZING! The graphics were stunning, the acting was very well done, the plot was pretty predictable, but so was the cartoon. The most important thing to me though is that it captured the intensity of the races, but still kept the corniness of the cartoon, and it did that very well.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

From all the current buzzing in Hollywood regarding this movie, it seems like its going to be the first bomb of the summer season.
Insiders are only hoping for a 30 million dollar weekend. Very low compared to what they were hoping for.
It doesn't help that every major critic is giving this movie horrible ratings. 1.5 stars from USA Today.

That's why I don't buy into the critics reviews. Sometimes I agree, sometimes I don't. Figure I'll spend my $7.50 if it looks like something that would interest me.
If you watched the old cartoon though, they did a great job of keeping it true to the story. I think if you don't mind watching a corny movie then you'll enjoy it.
Everything negative I've read about the film has to do with it's colorful design and often closely resembling the cartoon. It's difficult for people to watch a movie be a live-action cartoon.
I haven't seen Transformers but most critics and watchers mentioned that it wasn't a lot like the cartoon. Instead, it was more like a movie based on the characters and everything exciting about robots battling on Earth.
Speed Racer is a tough concept to translate onto film because what makes it Speed Racer is the corniness of the races.
I've also read that the acting is brilliant. That's the biggest positive. And I'm not surprised because I think Ricci and Hirsh are extremely talented.
