So, I have the HDTV, will have the PS3... time to invest in some speakers

I'm looking to go 5.1 here. I don't know the exact model, but I currently have an Aiwa 5-speaker, 3-disc changer, double cassette player with AM/FM and surround sound, but I think it's time to upgrade. I've had this for maybe 9 years now, and I want to go digital and get a sub. I don't really know where to begin browsing for a speaker system, because I just plain haven't gone shopping for this kind of stuff before.

I don't think I'm willing to spend any more than $300 on speakers, so if anyone has any suggestions/impressions with their own speakers, anything would be helpful. I was also wondering if wireless speakers were still great quality.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Spend more towards a nice sub then the actual satellites. For under $300 they won't be that high of a quality anyways. The rumbling of your house is what makes the surround sound go, you want to fall out of your seat whenever someones coughs.

Well, if I buy them all together, how can I go for a separate sub?

Anyway, through some short browsing, I came up with this:

        http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-THX-C.../dp/B0002WPSBC

For an original $400 price, it should be of "better" quality, no? Since there is a price cut, they just must have a newer model I'm sure. But it looks half decent. Guess I just need some advice.

Yes. Mine doesn't even have optical input.

The Onkyo TX-SR304 is a good one for about $300, but if I were you I'd go with the one I posted, it goes for like $400 at CC I believe, and it can handle 7.1

You'll need to spend at least $350 on a receiver alone to get uncompressed audio out of the PS3. Otherwise, you're missing out on the real reason to go Blu-ray IMO.

Thanks. Like I said, this advice is crucial in my making a purchase. I probably won't get one until this summer, but I need to plan ahead.

                    Here's an HDMI-audio capable receiver for about 350$;

If you get a home theater in a box. Make sure the subwoofer has to get it's own seperate power supply. Ours has 1 cable and it carries the power and sound from the receiver. It sucks, there is no adjustments for bass or anything.

This is what i have http://reviews.pricegrabber.com/home...ms/m/29798753/

                          Why isn't the sub pictured?

And ouch... had I known audio costed so much, I would have gone 32" instead of 23" on an LCD.

Hmm, well I'll tell you one thing... my mom would never go for this. ****.

If you're on a $300-400 audio budget, I'd go with a Onkyo HTIB. For the price, you get a good value. It takes a lot of cash to step up to lossless audio, but you'll hear a nice upgrade just taking the step up to digital audio via optical.

I'm in a similar boat as I have to get a new receiver b/c my optical input went out. Good luck.
