Okay, so I think I'm willing to spend a little more for a system. So is the Samsung HT-AS720 legit? It's the real deal for that price?

This is offtopic but what kind of hdtv do you have? I need to get one myself.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I have a Samsung LN-T2353H 23" LCD. If it weren't for my mom butting in I would have gone with the 32" model. This is last year's model, so this year's model might have newer, better stuff (I don't think they go 120 Hz at 32" but I don't know for sure).

My TV is brilliant in all ways except one, and it's not the model, but it's my TV specifically: I should be getting an 8ms response time, but I'm getting more like 40ms. I want to see if I can get a replacement because the TV isn't performing as featured, but I don't know if Samsung will do that.

Anyway, the TV has two HDMI inputs (no DVI), PC input, two components, three composite, one S-video and two coaxial (one for cable and one for antenna), one headphone input, a USB port (for firmware upgrades), and... that's all I can think of, but again, the 32" probably has more features (plus has Anynet+, so you can use one remote for everything, including the cable box and stereo system).

Thanks everybody for your help. I think I'll probably get this one along with a PS3. I've read around that I can get a 12% off discount if I have a Best Buy rewards card, is this true?

Onkyo offers the best bang for buck in the lower end of the all-in-one-box deals IMO.

Bought the Samsung HT-AS720 yesterday. I'm quite impressed. Analog audio is nothing to write home about, but digital is very clean. For a low-rate sub and only 100W per speaker, I can't complain about the level of volume this system can go. It's really only for a dorm room anyway, so all is good.

The only problem is right now it's set up in a room where I can't get too many speakers placed where they need to be. They're close, but my center and front speakers are placed about a foot above my ear level with no angle, and the surround speakers are placed directly to my sides about 8 feet away with no angle. They just find what they can around the room. I'm hoping that my dorm room will offer better placements for things, especially when I can use my TV with it, etc.

I guess I'll buy some stands for my surround speakers, but they're all so damn expensive.

What Bose sound system did you pick up for $500? The low end Lifestyle starts at $1400 and the 3-2-1 starts at around $800. Did it fall off of a truck?

Same deal with the 360? I'm such a moron when it comes to audio hook ups. I would love to get a nice system for my TV and 360. I have a 52" Mitz DLP.

HDMI audio is more of a convenience than a necessity for the 360,as the HD-DVD add-on doesn't pass TrueHD or DTS-MA.Of course, the 360 doesn't do Blu-Ray,either With HDMI,you have picture and sound in one cable. You could run an HDMI from the 360 and one from your cable/sat box into the receiver, and one HDMI to your TV.That would get you all set up.

You can hardly get 2 decent speakers for $300.
