Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Whose seen it already? I loved the first one. I'm gonna see this one probably this week.Tags: None -
Re: Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
I want to see it, but it did pretty poor for it's opening weekend. Not saying 56 million is poor, but when Iron Man is doing 31 mil in it's 3rd week, it's a disappointing weekend for sure. -
Re: Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
I thought the same thing. It was a good movie but I honestly thought the first one was better. Still, I loved it and I can't wait for the third movie since that's the book I remember being the best (personally).
Anybody else surprised at how dark the beginning of the movie was?

I liked it, but as others have said, I liked the first one better. It was definitely more violent. I thought the kids' acting was much better this time around though.Mario Kart Wii: 1203 9969 5095

Re: Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
You people are finding the first one better? I havn't see this one yet. I liked the first one but thought it was kind of slow. I could of sworn one of the critics critized the previous movie on the same issue and that it had been addressed for this one. Its a little sad it if still as slow as the first one was.
Either way its a must see for me. Loved the first one. This one does look darker which is a plusComment

Re: Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
I think I liked the first one better because it just seemed to flow better. The acting and efects weren't as good but I just found myself enjoying it more. I'll be interested to see how they do "Voyage of the Dawn Treader." That could be hard to translate into a good movie just because the pacing of the book sometimes even seems a bit disjointed.
Another question I have, and I have this with all book movies, is why they can't stay completely faithful to the books (or at least as much as possible). I found a few different things in this movie that were not in the book (at least that I remember). I'm going to have to read it again.Mario Kart Wii: 1203 9969 5095

Just saw the movie and i have to say it was great. The pacing was great. The first one was quite slow, however this one did a great job of starting the action early.
I must say the whole darker tone was pretty well done as well. It didn't ruin the movie for the younger audience though.SpoilerIt took to look for us to finally see Asylum
And are they implying the older siblings won't be in the sequel? That kind of sucks
I'm wondering is this going to end as a Trilogy like LOTR?
What were some of the differences, i've never read the books before.Comment

Re: Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
There are 4 movies, I think, done by a British company in the 80s. I think they did the same 3 + The Silver Chair. They were good for the time and stayed close to the books, they were all direct to video and didn't have to "fit" into the movie standards. The scene at the stone tablet, wolves, and White Witch castle were a lot darker, but I was young when I saw them.Mario Kart Wii: 1203 9969 5095

I want a pet lion now, however it would have to look as good as the CGI used for Asylum in the movieComment

SpoilerHis name is Aslan.Just wanted to help you out there. And I haven't seen the movie but having read the books it would seem likely that you won't see the older kids in the next few movies (assuming they do all 7 books). The Voyage of the Dawn Treader only has Edmund and Lucy along with a new family member - a very annoying brat, by the way.
It's been a while since I read the books but I don't think you see the elders again until the last book. Well, let me rephrase that. You definitely don't see them in the previous books. I just don't remember them in the last book. But I'm sure they are there because there's always been a bit of controversy with how the Susan character was portrayed in the Final Battle. I just don't remember her well. I need to reread that final book again.
It shouldn't end in a trilogy, though it could be done that way if they wanted to only focus on the four children. The other books begin to focus on new characters and new issues.
I think a slow pace will haunt this series much like it haunted the LOTR movies (which I still loved). The books are very slow and tell a lot of story. I don't think there's a way they could speed it up without sacrificing what makes the Chronicles of Narnia such an interesting piece of literature."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Exactly. I think that's why I didn't like this as much as the first one. With the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the story is pretty concise, so a movie is easier to do. The remaining books have a lot going on, so it's going to be hard to make movies that flow well. Hopefully they can do it. I definitely don't want them to stop like the BBC version did. Without going all the way through, it seems like a waste. The Left Behind movies stink for that very reason. Too many corners cut, they tried to combine two books into one, and then had a third movie that had nothing to do with the books. Stupid!Mario Kart Wii: 1203 9969 5095
