Settle a debate about Aerosmith

While listening to Hair Nation on Sirius, my wife and I were debating whether Aerosmith was a "hair band". She said they were because they had big hair and wore spandex. I countered that their style wasn't really like that in the 70's. Also, I don't think they can be classified as a "hair band" because they still had hit songs after Grunge came along. What do you think?

Not even close. If you started in the 70's, you can't be a hairband. They had some real bad songs in the hair band era, but they even made fun of hairbands(Poison) with Dude looks like a lady. Speaking of that I remember back in Junior High(Yes I'm old). My friend bought the Poison tape because he thought there were alot of hot chicks on the cover. Ughh, gives me a belly ache. It may have been my first true WTF moment.

Hairbands are Poison, Whitesnake, Cinderella, Great White, etc.

Not a hair band, they went into the hair band style in the 80's, but changed back in the 90's.

Same with Bon Jovi.

I have to agree, though they do escape one of my Hair Band criteria in that they had a hit song after Grunge basically killed off the Hair Band Era.

I only don't consider them a hair band because they conformed their sound and kept going well into the 90's and today.

Eh. The closest Aerosmith ever got to being a hair band was Permanent Vacation. Which wasn't even really all that close. Bon Jovi, on the other hand, recorded two of the most quintessential hair band albums of all time in Slippery When Wet and New Jersey.

Ergo, I conclude that Aerosmith is not a hair band, but Bon Jovi is. I know they've streamlined their sound and cut their hair and all that jazz, but once a hair band, always a hair band in my book.
