Jake Gyllenhaal is the Prince of Persia

Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton will star in "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films' adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game. Mike Newell is directing.

In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin wrote the script, which is based on the many games created by Jordan Mechner.

Bruckheimer is producing, while Mike Stenson, Chad Oman and Patrick McCormick are exec producing.

Production is set to start in July.
He should be the new Spiderman not the Prince of Persia

I think he's too dark to play Spiderman. Peter always seemed like an upbeat guy to me and Jake doesn't give me that vibe, at least not in the roles I have seen from him. I like this casting though and can't wait for the movie.

Why in the world are they making a Prince of Persia movie?

        Completely agree.

Jake could've been a good Venom, though.

It just due to the roles he plays. To me he looks very similar to Tobey in fact. But your right, after watching Donnie Darko i find it really hard to see him in that sort of up beat role. However if "Bubble Boy" is any indication, he could possibly pull of a Spidernan role.

On Prince of Persia, i'll wait a trailer

True, but I actually liked Topher Grace as Eddie Brock. If he had been introduced in Spiderman 1 and then built up their "friendly" competition/feud up to the third film, Venom would have been much more meaningful.

Oh yeah, I'm a big fan of Grace as Eddie Brock, but I think Jake would've been better overall. But alas, the whole handling of Venom/Brock was a disgrace.

And they're making a Prince of Persia movie because, unlike most video games it has a pretty damn good story and could put forth some good action scenes.

I loved playing Sands of Time; great game and very fun to play, plus I love the Prince's personality. It should be interesting to see the visuals of the movie and see how they incorporate the Dagger of Time into the movie. Wonder who will be doing all the stunts?

Longhorn, he handling of Venom was definitely horrible, worse than Clooney's Batman in my book, lol. I'm happy that Nolan is setting up Dent in The Dark Knight and then Two-Face for the third movie instead of doing it all in one movie like the Venom approach. Thank you Chris Nolan.

Completely agree with everything you said.

Nolan set up the Joker in the first one, with the card at the end, and now he's introducing us to Dent instead of rushing out Two-Face. It's amazing.

Shouldn't this read "Jake Gyllenhaal is the Princess of Persia?

I really can't stand his acting. He always looks so depressed and his face resembles a fish's that appears to be melting.

Well those pics answered my question. I saw the first post about it being a Disney film and wondered if it was going to be animated with Jake as voice actor or what the deal was. Nobody mentioned anything about it. Hope this turns out to be a cool movie. I'm a big fan of the games, well at least the ones I've played anyway.

Could be interesting. He looks like an un-roided Conan, though.
