I have absolutely no idea how I found this but it looks really good. It is from the producers of Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling For Columbine so it should probably be taken with several grains of salt. Either way it looks interesting to me and I thought I'd share it with OS.

It's supposed to be really, really good.

The guys who put it together had a brother who was a prelim wrestler (in California, I think) in the '70s. Everything is touched on, though -- bodybuilding, wrestling, team sports. Like I said, I've heard nothing but good things after it debuted at a film festival (either Sundance or Tribeca).

I am really interested in seeing what it has to say about military usage.

This looks very interesting...I am also curious to see what the military uses it for. The arms on that dude were something out of damn popeye cartoons!

Trailer hooked me, I'll be seeing this. The guy with the "Popeye" arms, his arms were not from steroids, it was from injecting Synthol into his biceps.

            They eventually exploded, no joke.

Valentino was featured in "The Man Whose Arms Exploded."

Some say its a form of Body dysmorphic disorder or BDD, these guys always think they are too small, not buffed enough, not big enough...they turn to steroids and other stuff like Synthol (Site Enhancement Oil) just to make them look bigger. Site Enhancement Oil (SEO) or Synthol is a liquid substance, usually a mixture of oils, used by a few bodybuilders to increase the apparent size of some muscles. The effects of SEO are purely and solely cosmetic. It is injected either under the skin or between the muscle fibers. You can find some more freaked up people using

I was in the US Navy from 1996 to 2001. I got pretty big from my early days in the service, especially around that time, creatine was fairly new and was the hot commodity among young bodybuilders.

After a couple years I got stationed in Miramar, CA for some schooling. Miramar at that time was just turned over as a pure Marine Corps base. I went into the gym there one day thinking I was one of the bigger dudes there. NOPE.

These kids, and I mean KIDS, were f***ing jacked. I'm talking anywhere from 6'2" to 6'8" and at least 230 to 270. And it wasn't a fat 230 to 270. I'm talking ripped. My ego was put in check immediately.

As it turned out after talking to a couple of dudes in there, they told me exactly how they got big. A bunch of them would hop into someone's car and go south of the border into Tijuana, Mexico and get anything they wanted. Juice is legal in Mexico. They would shoot each other up over there and then come back across the border.

I never asked, but I assume that the military, especially the Marine Corps does not test for 'roids. Again, this is back around 1999 or so. I'm not sure if they test now. But I would venture to say, as it is with homosexuals in the military, it is a "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

So to answer your question, I would think the military would turn a "blind eye" for steroid usage, especially among the Army and Marine Corps. After all, these guys need to be beasts. Would it really hurt if they had an edge to them when it came time for war??

I was in the Army myself from 00-04. Yeah I know GNC is a big hit, especially creatine, I got into it myself. The trailer just reminded me that while I was there, I never heard an official word on steroids though. There never was any pro or anti talk about it. So this will be interesting to me to find out what this documentary has uncovered as far as steroid usage in the military.

As for the question about would it hurt for soldiers to have an edge to them when it came time for war. Hmm, I don't know, it's a question for the individual I guess. I personally would think that War itself was enough for an edge. These drugs have a lot of bad side effects. I guess it's one thing to have an edge during war but you also have to think about after the war is over when they have to go back home to their families. Soldiers have to take a number of questionable drugs in the first place, I can't see steroids helping really.

One of those bad side effects being rage, and I'm not just talking about the stereotypical "roid rage" that everyone thinks is so prevalent because that is pretty exaggerated. I'm talking that extra adrenaline boost, that extra bit of energy that they may not be able to control.

What happens if they get angry and decide to take out their frustration on a group of innocents? Yes, it is a pretty big "if" and is an extreme case, but our troops get enough negative, undeserved press, that it would be terrible to see something like that happen because our troops were trying to get an "edge." Like trob said, shouldn't the idea that you are putting your life on the line for others, and that in a lot of cases it is kill or be killed be enough of a mental edge?

I was talking about both mental and physical edges. I am not aware if hand-to-hand combat is used over in Iraq and Afghanistan, but if it is pretty prevelant, I would assume our boys would have the upper hand.

Yeah, I'd say if we have an American Troop against an "Insurgent" hand-to-hand, the American would probably pummel the poor dude into the ground.
