    Samsung TV with HDMI cable?

Just got my 46" Sammy today, the 550 model. Beautiful picture but I seem to be having an issue trying to get an HDMI cable to work properly with my cable TV (Time Warner) as well as my PS3. Thought someone here might be able to help.

With HDMI cables both the TV picture and the PS3 picture are oversized, that is to say that part of the picture is cut off. For instance, on MLB The Show, while batting I seem to be way too close and the pitcher's assortment of pitches cannot all be seen. While pitching I cannot see all of my assortment of pitches. It is not just The Show either as all my games are having this problem. The TV picture is also oversized, I can barely see the ticker on ESPN.

Funny thing is when I go to composite everything is normal and I do not have these issues. I bought a couple of HDMI cables in hopes of being able to use them although I ordered them from Amazon for cheap. I have checked every known setting both on the TV and my cable box and am unable to remedy this issue.

I have Googled online and found some people with similiar issues but no real answers. Anyone have this problem or maybe know of a fix? Thanks.

My Samsung has a picture mode that allows you to zoom, have you tried to see if that fixes it? I know you said composite may be ok but the zoom is tied to each input I'm pretty sure.

I saw two Zoom options but I believe they were grayed out and unable to be selected. I will double check that though. Thanks.

My son has a 46" Sammy as well and he does not have this problem either. I have double checked and mine is set to the 16:9. For the heck of it I put it on 4:3 to check it and the picture stayed the same........too big for the screen. Shouldn't have 4:3 made the picture real small?

I'm going to check into the zoom features when I get home from work to see if that makes a difference. Component works fine though.

Re: Samsung TV with HDMI cable?

I have a 42" Samsung DLP, and I never had a problem until I got Time Warner cable. Something was screwed with during the install, and to make a long story short, I complained to Time Warner, they sent a tech out who specialized in HD/HDTV's and he readjusted everything for me. There is a zoom button that is on the TW remote control, and if I remember right, it had something to do w/ that. I know your issue is w/ the TV itself, but you may luck out and be able to get TW to come out and fix the issue for you. You just have to make it seem like the cable is jacked up and cutting off part of your picture...

Anyway, hope that helps in some way...

              thats strange.
what are your ps3 settings at??
If its not at 720p, try setting it to that, and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I already tried the 720P setting only and it didn't do any good. I guess I can just stick with component since that works but I'm going to give it one more go this evening before throwing in the towel.

I would also go to the Samsung website & see if this TV needs a firmware upgrade.

Re: Samsung TV with HDMI cable?

OK, I'm going to put this thread to rest. Came home from work and had the TV working properly with the HDMI cables in less than 10 minutes. This after working on it 5 hours last night.

Hard for me to explain but apparently I had somehow set the screen to "wide fit" while on the cable box I had set it to 16:9. Not sure why the component cables worked properly while the HDMI picture was too big though.

With this TV not all options are available when, and this is when it gets difficult to explain, you have a certain entertainment mode in place. Once I put the picture to "standard" I was able to see that the other options were available and were not grayed out and this was when I found the TV was set to "wide fit". Changed it to 16:9 and end of problem.

Sorry to waste everyone's time but I thank everyone who looked at / responded to my initial post.

Hey dude, remember I told you that those tv settings are independent from input to input? In other words the fact component was working right was irrelevant because the whole zoom button has it's own setting for component, for HDMI, etc etc.

Anyways, no need to apologize about wasting my time, I love putting my thinking cap on for stuff like this.

On a side note: how's the tv?

I just bought one from Circuit City today and they're supposed to ship it to my house on Saturday.
