The Down Low in the Rap Game

    http://www.amazon.com/Hiding-Hip-Hop...1982700&sr=8-1

Everyone wants to know the truth about their favorite celebrities' heart's desire. Within the masculine culture of Hip Hop and Hollywood, there is a well-known gay subculture that industry insiders are keenly aware of but choose to hide. Terrance Dean worked his way up for more than ten years in the entertainment industry from intern to executive, and has lived the life of glitz and bling along with Hollywood and Hip Hop's most glamorous. With a family full of secrets and working in an industry founded on maleness -- where one's job, friendships, and reputation all depend on remaining on the down low and in hiding -- Dean writes a revealing account of the journey of coming out from hiding.
Full of startling anecdotes and incredible true stories, Hiding in Hip Hop is not a traditional tell-all. A personal and poignant memoir, it is also one of the most provocative and honest looks at stardom and sexuality.

Do you care that (fill in the blank rapper) is on the down low?

I have an issue with anyone not just rappers on the down low.... Simply because living double lives is shady and it can get innocent people hurt. I think if you like dudes then like DUDES. But dont be fake dont pretend just keep you personal life personal and do what you do... But that having a wife and a boyfriend on the side stuff like that just aint right if your boat floats that way then go down that river just dont drag other people down with you.

I remember the Law & Order: SVU episode about the Down Low. Good episode.

The only problem I have with the whole "down low" thing is that you're taking the two biggest at risk communities for STDs (blacks and gays) and basically creating an environment that's incredibly unsafe for the transmission of said diseases.

My girlfriend has that on her book list or w/e its called I'm kinda shaky if I want to ask her what rappers are on the Low....I mean from a PC aspect I can't say I'd feel different but when it actually comes out all the PC goes out the window.

So the author of the book is basically gonna be telling names out there of rappers who are DL?

Depends on the rapper. If it was any other profession, I don't care much at all how someone gets down.

But the fact is, a great many of rappers have ruthlessly attacked the homosexual community. If someone like Nas is on the down low, he ethered himself.

Nah, not naming names, but giving clues. It's not just rappers either, he seems to be going after other black entertainers, which imo is a shame. Some of these I'd been hearing about for a while though, if my guesses are correct. Here are some examples of how he's "outing" them.

Jazz, "a nice looking brother, had women swooning when his character as a hard-working, married man graced the television screen. His hit show marked a milestone because of its accurate portrayal of African-American family life. The world doesn't want to know that their favorite actor likes sleeping with other men."<o>></o>>

                  Lucas
, "a megastar. No matter what film project he was attached to it was bound to be a box office smash," and Kareem, "a leading sitcom actor, is married to an actress." The film crew took bets on "how often Lucas's 'boyfriend' Kareem would show up and how long he would stay. It was like clockwork; Kareem arrived each day at the same time and went straight to the trailer for hours on end. Our circle was talking about the down low circle Lucas and Kareem were in. But it was a hard nut to crack; they were superstars."
                  <o>></o>>
"Eli was a force to be reckoned with. He flew out the gate with his debut album and would become a mainstay in the ever-changing Hip Hop industry, where many rappers are one-hit wonders. He has been hailed as one of the greatest rappers to bless the mic. Up until that moment I had never heard anything remotely close about the rapper being gay. Eli was a burgeoning superstar who parlayed his marketability into television and movie credits. He even had a promising clothing line. But every man's got needs and Eli's needed tending to."
Gus, a singer, attractive with "clear skin, dark eyes, bushy eyebrows, and short, wavy hair did not give way for a thug image. He was just too pretty." "One morning, I turned on my television and I wasn't prepared for what I saw on BET- my boy, Gus, parade in his video with a host of celebrity cameos mean mugging for the camera- I just wondered how he would keep his secret of sleeping with men a secret."

Lola, an R&B singer and songwriter, who was "a staple on the New York scene, partying with big name celebrities" and whose style was "hard-edged rap with a little rock and R&B." "She would often say to us, 'I'm going to be the first lesbian R&B singer...As much as Lola wanted to be a trailblazer and open doors for other gay artists, she was still part of the machine. Lola had to do what the label told her to do."
I thought Lucas, Kareem, Eli and Gus were pretty easy.

To answer the question though, no I don't particularly care if [Rapper] is gay, as it has nothing to do with me, nor would be surprised about how many down low black entertainers there really are.

Do you guys really care if someone is gay or not? I mean really, how does someone taking a little on the side affect your life?

The worst part is, this is nothing more than a book consisting of unsubstantiated rumors, that for some reason, people eat up. You know why they don't use real names? Because they would get their asses sued off.

I have no idea why people buy this ****.
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats not totally true. Karrine Stephens (Superhead) wrote a book naming tons of athletes and entertainers that she slept with (most of them were married at the time) and she didnt get sued.
