Good to see someone enjoy their music. This band is close to my heart because of the El Paso connection and their music is amazing.

Don't know if you have heard De-Loused In The Comatorium. The whole cd will take you some kind of journey man LOL.

I can't stand much after De-Loused. everything they've done since just sounds like they went to the studio thinking "okay, let's do as many drugs as possible and play crazy **** because everybody loves us"

I was big on At The Drive-In's "Relationship of Command" so I gave The Mars Volta a whirl. As many of you have already mentioned, De-Loused was really well done (considering my taste in music). I think it may be one of my favorite albums of all time. For me, my interest has dwindled with each subsequent album release.

I liked Fraces the Mute a lot, but not as much as De-Loused.

Amputecture straddled a line, it had a handful of songs I really liked but also a lot more experimentation - the aforementioned "background music."

Bedlam felt like a big mess of song though I admittedly didn't give it as much time as I did the other albums (usually takes a number of listens to sort things out).

And I thought I heard they may have released another album but I sort of lost interest because I did not like the road they were headed down. I understand they want to push boundaries, but pushing boudaries doesn't always equal awesomeness in my case.

With all that, I'm still big on their first three albums.

The Mars Volta are really talented and are a bit mind-blowing to listen to. Saw them in Michigan once about three years ago, great live as well. I have to agree with VDosen, the first albums were all really good but the newest is pretty tight as well.

I actually just recently bought their last two cds. What I like about them, is their willingness to change it up and not remain the same from cd to cd. Their newest is plesant, but a bit slow. It's the polar opposite of the cd before that, which is loud loud loud. They definately require your full attention is cool to me. The singer is an aquired taste. I wasn't sure if I liked him myself at first, but the more I listen to their music, the more accustomed I become to his singing. Reminds me alot of the singer for Coheed and Cambria.

I guess I don't mind the meandering of the "background noise" like some of you other guys do. Its not quite the same as jam bands, but I would put them in the same ballpark. I think its interesting to listen to and it takes you on a trip and paints some awesome pictures when in the right mood. Not to mention it is the ultimate mind eraser - completely lets go whatever I was stressing about.

I liked the singer more in at the drive in than in mars volta. To me he just sounds more natural in at the drive in than he does now.
