    Radiohead Fans On ITunes=Ridiculous

So I recently bought the two disc Best Of Radiohead. It's a great collection of songs from a group I like enough to own this set,but not really all their cd's.The one thing that could have been better is the sequencing. If EMI had put this in chronological order, the flow would have been much better, but I can change that myself.

Anyways, the point really of this thread is to vent about the morons that write so called reviews on ITunes about this disc, saying buy their cd's instead, don't support EMI and this compilation.People fail to realize either way you are supporting EMI,along with the band. They also fail to realize that not EVERYONE is a diehard Radiohead fan and wants to own every single album to have some good tracks from each. Thus the reason for ITunes and "Greatest Hits" packages.

Finally there is all the talk of how the songs sound better in the context of the full album and that is another reason the Best Of should not be purchased.Again,of course any diehard fan is going to think that.It is a bit contradictary though, alot of those fans have seen the band live and they don't play their entire albums Live.Yet people still enjoy the show and hearing the songs. So how is this any different than someone purchasing a Best Of?Ok I'm done with my rant now.

I personally despise Greatest Hits compilations (for any artist) for the very reasons you mentioned in the post. I make exceptions for 50s artists who never really put out a true album or artists that have albums that are out-of-print and hard as hell to find.

That's your personal preferance and I can respect that. However,I find Greatest Hits packages are a great option for those who don't want to buy all the cds to have the songs they enjoy.Yeah, they are a way for the label to milk more money out of customers, but it is usually new customers since most fans already have the cds.

I buy (bought) greatest hits albums of bands that I owned all or most of their CD's. I no longer buy CD's though.

Green Day, Barenaked Ladies, Aerosmith are some of those.

I love Greatest Hits compilations. Why buy multiple CDs, when you can put all the best songs on one disc or more if they have a ton of great songs. Also no disrespect but I just don't get how Radiohead is one of the top if not the top band right now. I just don't care for their music at all. Oh well. I'm stuck in the 70's and 80's.

Radiohead don't have the catchiest of music granted, but that is their intention. They are listed as one of the top bands because of their willingness to actually try to grow and expand musically. They don't stick to a formula.

They are one of the top bands because they are f***ing talented as hell.

Radiohead, talent wise and song writing wise, is better than 99.9% of the "artists" that plague the current top 40 playlists.

                    Only 99.9%? Who's that .1%?

i understand where the fans are coming from. if you really want to explore artists like bjork or radiohead, greatest hits are probably not the way to go.

take Kid A and Ok Computer for example, i wouldn't call them concept albums per se but the albums do have a "theme" and the songs' order helps bring it all together.

but like others have said, if a person chooses to purchase greatest hits cds that's their prerogative.

Yeah,I bought OK Computer today actually, because I am very intrigued by this band and I did notice the certain flow about the disc.I'm not really sure about Kid A and if that will be a future purchase or not.It seems a bit too far out there for my liking, though I do kind of like the songs that were included on The Best Of cd.

I prefer The Bends over OK Computer, personally.

That's next on my list. The half of it I have heard sounds fantastic.I will probably feel the same, since that is more my style of music.

Some Artists concentrate on making good albums and their music is best Enjoyed that way(Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Yes, etc). Others mostly concentrate on making singles( A flock of Seagulls, Most modern R and B groups, Most Rappers, etc. And there are even a few who did both (XTC, prince, the Kinks). My suggestion is to research a group your interested in and buy the product accodingly. allmusic.com is the best place to start.
