External/Portable Hard Drives
I need an external hard drive for my laptop and I'm not sure what to get. I've been looking recently and am currently fixed on a LaCie D2 Quadra 500 gb but they don't seem to be so popular on ebay. I'm trying to snag one for around $100 preferably.
I'd like it to have Firewire and USB 2.0 and 500 gbs. Any recommendations?

Re: External/Portable Hard Drives
Well I was reading CNet's reviews and the User Reviews only rated it a 4.5 out of 10 and one review saying "Western digital call agents confirmed that these drives have some "unusual" problem where they power off repeatedly and unexpectedly without the user initiating the power down and in the middle of use."
It seems other people have had that problem too so this makes me hesitant. They also say tech-support sucks as well.[NYK|DAL|VT]

Re: External/Portable Hard Drives
I have a mini 80 gb from segate, haven't had any problems and it goes through some pounding. I also have a 500 from segate also, got it for ~$120. WD seems a little cheap for their features and issues for the external drives. I think Maxtor was the highest rated company for the externals. Either Segate, WD, or Maxtor will get you a good drive and go support if anything happens.Comment
