L was real nice on the mic. Where does he rank among dead MCs lyrically? Well, that's a strange question to me lol. I can think of only three off the top of my head that were really great in regards to being lyricists and that's him, B.I.G. and Pun; lol the "Big" 3, pun intended. I don't think you could go wrong choosing any of them. He's up there among the best all time period, alive or dead.PS: You guys are great.

Good rapper but overrated because he died so young. People grade him with the same curve they give to 2pac.Comment

I don't think Big L was overrated at all. No ones giving him a curve or anything. People do that when they talk about Biggie! Big L was nice period! There's nothing overrated about that. I'm not saying he was the GOAT but if he were alive he would be in the top 5 easily.Provided by yours truly

I meant in terms of putting out a bunch of quality rap albums.
If the topic is rapping skills, then I can see someone putting him in the top 10.
If it's about what he actually accomplished, it's not much. He's the Bo Jackson of rap.Comment

In other words he didn't get his ture chance to really shine because we only saw a couple glimpses of what he could do. The potential definitely was there!Provided by yours truly

Re: BIG L RIP...Where do YOU rank him in Rap History?
Biggie on the other hand (who I absolutely love, btw), I feel gets more of the L treatment because he only really put out two albums. The rest was Diddy recycling old verses we've heard a thousand times, finding old Biggie answering machine tapes (basically anything with BI's voice), and finding some guest artists to jump on while changing the beat.
I think unlike the potential that L had, I don't know what Biggie's future as an MC was. People say he could have been so much more. Which I agree with. He would have been so much more? I'm not so sure. Life After Death was a classic (and I repeat, I'm a huge Big fan), but being objective you could see early that BIG was helping to usher in the hip-pop era, and started to stray from his Ready to Die roots. I imagine his career would have eventually been that of a more talented Jay-Z. Which I guess isn't a bad thing at all, but much like Jay (who I also love), I think Biggie peaked early.Comment

Re: BIG L RIP...Where do YOU rank him in Rap History?
He always reminded me a lot of BIG with his style and lyrics. He was a great lyricist but his only true full album wasn't all that great - good but not a classic IMO. If you compile a greatest hits for him though it's pretty damn impressive.
If he was still alive he probably would have been Top 10 if he'd lived up to his potential. But knowing the course hip-hop has taken since his death he probably would have gone pop and fallen off a bit but who knows."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Big L put the DITC on the map... although that created the horrible phenomenon that is Fat Joe, I can still appreciate all the other cats (O.C., Buckwild, Lord Finesse, Diamond, etc...) that came from it.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment
