Loved The Thing....even the original screenplay and the way the interactions of the camp happened while they were trying to figure out how to beat it. Star Wars 6 and the whole Ewok cuddly creatures thing ruined it for me, as SW5 was a strong movie. Alien when it first came out was just plain ill. Blade Runner is just a very smart film that was done so well. Starship Troopers is just a campy joke and shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as some of these other movies. I caught the end of ID yesterday and continue to shake my head at what could have been. It went to the edges of campy and sometimes crossed it ("Up yourrrrrrrrrrrs!") then came back down to probably what it set out to do. One of its' problems it seems is not enough celluloid to go around for all the stars it had. Jeff Goldblum is an embarrassment.
I know this is a love it/hate it film, but I'll add Signs to the list.
