any need for me to come in and comment in this thread?

You HAVE to get the 2 GB of RAM though... especially if you plan on running VMWare

Ordering that tonight from crucial.com, only $55 compared to $100 that apple wants.

I would recommend "Medialink" too so you can stream media from your mac to your PS3: http://www.nullriver.com/products/medialink

There is also "Connect 360" for the xbox

Well worth the $20 I paid.

Since there are a couple apps I need to run in Windows I plan on using VMware Fusion to take care of that.

So anyone have any experience with the Mini's?
I have a Mac Mini as my main home computer and love it Fish. I will NEVER go back to a PC again.

                  Congrats on that.

I bought a MacBook Pro in September of 07 and used it mostly for video editing. But, I'm slowly making the migration over to doing all things on it.

Macs are just incredible. I grew up on them and college made me switch for program reasons.

I haven't checked out a Mac Mini but I hear they are great.

I use Linux enough at work, to know that I have no desire to run it on my home machine.

I am torn between the IMac and the MacBook. I'll make a decision next week when I get some time.

probably because the thread is about Mac.

Linux is a better choice than Mac, IMO. It wasn't about Mac, BTW, it was about fish's choice. I gave him an idea, which he chose to not take.

What makes Linux a better choice? Other than amongst the Nerd Herd it's the hip thing to do? (Not an insult, by profession, I am a member of the Nerd Herd myself).

Agreed. I'm so tired of using Linux on a day to day basis and writing script after script to automate what needs to be done in our corporate environment (although I can't stand using the Mac's that we have).

Even something as simple as updating DNS/DHCP records using VI is getting tiresome (we do run DHCP/DNS through AD, but in some smaller non-production environments we're running DHCP/DNS through Linux). Although one thing I'm thankful for is that I learned to use Linux via command line. I know a lot of people who say they understand Linux, but have rarely ever left the GUI. The GUI is 1/100th of what Linux is about..

Anyhow, congrats Fish! Not my cup of tea, but I'm sure it will work out for you.
