Just described me in a nutshell. I don't care for Linux and certainly wouldn't use it at home. Not a Mac fan either, but I'd get a Mac before using Linux just because I do what everyone else said, surf, pay bills, upload photos, download music.

I just use PC's because we have several of them, it's easier for me right now and cheaper. I like a lot of what Apple has to offer, especially in their newer laptops, but just not for me right now.

        Stop it with your name-calling.

If I started a thread saying I may be getting a PS3, then people would suggest the Xbox 360 instead. So I feel like I was presenting a viable alternative, although seemingly everyone would rather rip into me, saying I'm brainwashed... I still use Windows to play video games... I'm not brainwashed by any means.

I apologize for trying to give suggestions. I see now that it's immoral reprehensible behavior, to try and offer a differing viewpoint to spur conversation on a forum. Thank you heel, for enlightening me.

EDIT: And yes, perhaps it was bad taste being passive aggressive earlier, so I apologize for that.

This is like battle of the super dorks. If we all feel compelled to post in a thread regarding someone purchasing a computer, then it's likely that we're all nerds.

Okay, I'm posting from my mac now. I really have no idea what I'm doing. LOL. Time machine is currently backing up everything. After that I need to transfer all of my Itunes music on here. Anyone have any other apps they like?

The company I work for is about 70% Linux, 30% Windows. We're running either Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 or CentOS 3 as our Linux distributions. The Linux servers seem to go down more frequently and have caused more headaches than the Windows servers (AD, Exchange, IIS, Anti-Virus is about all we run on Windows). I never thought I'd say that before as in past jobs it's been the Windows servers causing more problems and the Linux servers "just run".

I have never used the Linux distributions that Giggas has mentioned so I can't speak for their ease of use. I do know that every variant I've used, I've had to write/edit scripts and use the command line to achieve what I've needed. Like BK and Herb, I just use my home machines to read email, surf the web, pay bills, track/update/change my investments through MS Money and use MS Office. I want it to run and not have to deal with any more headaches when I get home. Windows has afforded me that. With that said, I know Giggas is younger and I loved to mess with things at that age as well (I used to write scripts and very small programs to get around evaluation software expiration dates - cracks as some might know it). I just don't have the time, energy or passion to do it anymore. I guess the World of IT has finally done me in!
For me most stuff comes out on Windows, and working as a web developer I sadly know I have to make sure everything is perfect on IE, other browsers don't get the pull that IE does.

When I go home I don't want to deal with computers, installing Linux, etc. I'm a nerd/geek/whatever, but I don't enjoy tinkering like that anymore. I do work on a Mac, but I just can't justify buying myself a MacBook Pro, it's sooooooooo expensive.

Windows is so common and the leader, just makes sense for me to stick with it. I want to be able to easy buy my tax software, etc...Linux is great, and it's come so far over the years, but I just don't want to deal with the pain it can be.

I think a part of it is getting older. I also don't want to build my own PC anymore, it's just too much work/annoyance.
