It was a weird thing, it slowed my computer down and gave me weird error messages everytime I tried opening up a file folder like "computer found lots of viruses/trojans, a virusscan is recommended. get program now?" and it would say yes or no. I would obviously click no but it would launch a browser anyway taking me to a website (full-viruscan.com) of crap on it including a scanner type progress bar. I didn't know what the progress bar was.
Anyways, I closed the browser and I went to search what the hell that full-viruscan was. My search took me to a page with this thing called FixIEDef. I DLed that and ran it and it seemed to stop the error messages.
I then ran a Kaspersky virus scan where nothing came up, and I ran multiple adware program cleaners like SUPERAntiSpyware, Spybot S&D, and Spyware Terminator. A few things came up and I removed them. Then some stuff started popping up on Kaspersky like trojan infected files. I deleted those as well cuz they couldn't be repaired.
Part of the symptom was that my internet bandwidth went to complete hell. At one point, my speed test was only pulling 500kbps down and I'm on a cable connection. That seems to have gotten better. Throughout the day I was running at 1500 which is still really low but I did it now and it was 3000 down.
My question is, how do I know that my computer is fully clean and there aren't traces of this thing lying around? I want to do some online banking and make some purchases but I'm scared that this thing may be monitoring my stuff.
Thanks for your help!
