Re: Plasma vs LCD
It's all a matter of preference IMO. I think Plasmas look better, that's why I have one for my main TV. Burn-in definitely isn't a problem anymore with the new plasmas, I play the PS3 and Wii on my plasma more than I watch TV these days LOL and have no problems. Lots of games these days also have cutscenes to break up static images.
For your price range, I'd probably look at a LCD though. I have a Westinghouse LCD that I've never had any problems with. It's a about a $100 over your price limit, but Best Buy has a 42" Westinghouse 1080p LCD for $899 but you can use a 10% coupon and get it for about $820.Comment

EDIT - nevermind, I get what you're saying. Yeah, it's not the prettiest casing ever, but it's a great picture FWIW.Comment

Re: Plasma vs LCD
Or another way to think about it:
You can leave your TV on for the next 12-13 years. By then, you will be looking for the newer stuff like:
1) 4 dimensional sight and sound.
2) The Samsung Mega Max 400 inch 40,256 by 13,860 PIOME with true flavor smell.Comment

Re: Plasma vs LCD
How are Vizio plasmas? They're selling a 32 inch for 650 and a 42 inch for 800.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Plasma vs LCD
As many others have said, the 2 competing formats are so similar, you can't go wrong with either one. Both have advantages and disadvantages over the other, but either will look awesome and give you a great picture for a long time. I'd go LCD/Plasma over DLP any day of the week, but that's me.Comment

Re: Plasma vs LCD
Nah, I wasnt calling Westinghouse a generic brand, im saying there are some generic brands out there like AKAI for example.
Check the reviews on Bestbuy.com about that Westinghouse and you'll see. I went to see it for myself and that tv looked like complete garbage. It was the worst one on display, the lighting looked more like a yellowish dim than a white compared to all others.
P rush, Westinghouse is not the BestBuy brand tv.Comment

Re: Plasma vs LCD
It going to come down to what you prefer. There are pro's and con's for both tv's. Personally, I have a Panasonic plasma and love it. I game on it as well as watch BD's and I've had no burn in. I've had the tv for almost 2 years now. Here's a pretty good article on cnet about deciding which tv is right for you. Maybe it'll help with your decision.

Re: Plasma vs LCD
It's the equivalent of having your tv on for 11-12 years.
And as a previous poster pointed out, you'll be looking for a new tv long before a Plasma or
LCD's lifespan become an issue.Comment
