    Funny Games

Without a doubt....the most disturbing movie I've seen in years.

The acting was EXCELLENT....Tim Roth, Michael Pitt, Naomi Watts.

But if you are looking for the "feel good" movie of the year...this aint it.

Solid flick though. But...whew! Damn man.....that's one #$%&^ up movie.

Sounds like I gotta see it.

Did you see Hard Candy? Is it that kind of disturbance?

Saw it, it's alright the acting is good but I can't find any real point to the whole thing. It was more annoying then disturbing to me.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

More like the old Nihilistic 70s flicks. Don't want to give away anything, but yeah...it's a pessimistic film for sure.

I liked it. It's like the anti-torture porn torture movie.

          I hate torture porn.

I almost rented this last weekend. I really enjoyed The Strangers and I was told that this is kind of similar. I'll have to check it out.

              Re: Funny Games

I hated it. It might just not be my type of movie. My girlfriend and her niece rented it b/c I'm not a big scary movie guy, but they love em and since it had a golf club on the front of the box they thought this was a good "compromise" movie. Scary, but involving sports. Not so much. I will say now after reading these comments and thinking about the movie that the acting was top notch.

I just thought the whole movie was bad. I went to bed thinking that I had just wasted 2 hours for one of the worst movies I'd seen.

To be fair though, these are not my style of movies, so some of you that like bad movies will like this I guess.

Watched this over the weekend and was very disappointed. After it was over, I was left scratching my head wondering why in the heck I had wasted the last 2 hours with it. I was expecting much more from it. I will say that the 2 guys rockin' the all white with the polo's were interesting and annoying though. I kept waiting on some heroics or an attempt at them from the dad......didn't get them though.

Read the plot on wiki, I just have no interest in movies like this.

After seeing this movie, I won't see it again, but it was worth seeing. Not for the movie itself, but for the director's intent. He really just kind of told us: "You Americans like violence, yes? You combine the success of the protagonist with gore and we celebrate in the twisted mechanics in our minds? Well, let me show you something that will make you consider otherwise." It's shot very Shyamalan-esque (has some three or four minute running shots without transitions or background music) and the tone of the movie hits home even before the title shows up on screen, and stays very consistent. The acting was phenomenal IMO.

At the same time, it was such a disturbing movie that makes you mouth "What the fu--?" in every other scene, just by the nature of how the movie is portrayed. You don't even for a second question the way a character is going about handling a situation and you feel for the protagonists very much.

The end question is whether you agree with how the director went about this movie. There are some subtleties you'll notice when the antagonists give the audience direct references to the movie being more or less a state of reality than a piece of cinema. If you accept this style that he went for, you may like the end result a bit more... again, not with the movie itself, but the director's overall message.

However, this movie was beyond disturbing, and the content alone is like a 4/10. It was very emotionally moving, yes... it made me feel for the characters and it did so ever so strongly, but sometimes that's not enough. I feel like this movie needed to be made, though... sort of like Untraceable. People need to understand that sometimes what we are watching is straight garbage, yet we relish it.

Great.... some foreigner and his enlightened progressive mindset is gonna give us 'mericans a commupance 'cause we like Die Hard.
Even more reason not to watch.

This was extremely realistic. If you were in the victims shoes that is probably what you would do. I know, you all would say just run. But, it isn't as easy as it sounds.

This film really got to me.

No music whatsoever during the movie except opening and ending credits.

Overall great. Many people won't like it though.

Actually, the director/writer is very American, but he doesn't conform to entertaining grotesqueries like most Americans tend to (at least a fairly decent amount). We marvel in the thought of someone slashing someone else's neck off. Why? I really have no idea... I think it's the guilty pleasure of being able to see something you lawfully wouldn't be able to do yourself (not that you may ever have any intentions of doing so anyway).

Let me put it this way, and it's important because there is a critical thirty seconds in this movie that is a turning point for everything this movie stands for...
