Mulholland Falls: What's the verdict?

I have a question for the movie buffs here at OS.

I want to know what's the general consensus on Mulholland Falls? I know critics had bashed this movie back when it first came out in theaters but never knew why. MF has a lot of actors in its cast that I like too. So what's the deal on this one?

If this helps any regarding movies tastes... I really like a lot of different types of crime stories or mysteries, whether they are action-packed or ones with intricate plots that are mostly suspenseful and light on action. I love L.A. Confidential and also like both Chinatown movies (although I find the original a lot better than The Two Jakes). I also like The Usual Suspects and Miller's Crossing a whole lot.

I love LA Confidential, The Usual Suspects, and Miller's Crossing, but, from what I remember, MF was like...

A 50's movie if Paul Verhoeven came around and sleazed it up a bit. Then, someone else came and took out all the parts that made it interesting.
