Seeking advice on a new HDTV.
I have decided that I am going to get a new HDTV, and need a little advice on what to get. I am able to spend around $2,000. I will be using this TV almost exclusively for gaming with a PS3 and a 360. I've done a little research, but I am afraid of a few things. I am afraid of screen burn or ghosting, motion blur, and lag or unresponsiveness while gaming. I'm looking for a TV that is 1080p and between 46 and 60 inches. Any recommendations or words of warning would be appreciated.Tags: None -
Re: Seeking advice on a new HDTV.
research man, look at every tv that interests you and research it at places like Cnet.com, avsforums.com and a general site.
Vanns.com has some great deals if you take time to look it up, and dont mind them shipping it to you.
plasma's are nice with deep rich natural looking colors... burn in isnt a big problem if you keep the contrast and brightness down to about halfway...
LCD's look really nice too amd some might blur to a small degree, but not enough to disgust you or notice if you're just playing.
Honestly people overrate some of those issues to a huge degree, because alot of the newer technologies are fantastic nowadays
I'd go for a Panasonic plasma at that budget if possible but you cant go wrong with a nice LCD either honestly.
I have both kinds, plus a rptv and I love using them all.Last edited by 23; 07-02-2008, 02:17 AM. -

Samsung DLP 1080p 61in
I think DLP's are better for gaming and watching sports personally, especially a 1080p DLP. Amazing quality. I have the 50in version of that tv above and it's awesome. I have a PS3, DirecTV, and the PC that I'm using right now hooked up to it and the picture quality is A plus.
I have the Samsung LCD upstairs hooked up to DirecTV and I've tried gaming on it before, but I think the picture is BEST on a DLP television when it's a 1080p DLP.
Whatever you decide, make sure you go 1080p and not just 1080i.Comment

Re: Seeking advice on a new HDTV.
The TV will be going into a large game room. It is basically my whole basement. I think around 50" is going to be good. I could go bigger, but my budget really won't allow that. Right now I am leaning towards this TV.

Re: Seeking advice on a new HDTV.
I'm almost ready to purchase that Panasonic plasma, but I'm really worried about screen burn. Does anyone have any experience with the TV from my earlier post, or something similar? This TV will be primarily used for gaming, so image retention is a major concern.Comment

Re: Seeking advice on a new HDTV.
I have both a plasma and LCD so I know the differences in how they look.
Thing with all plasma's are that it takes a good 100-150 hours to break them in. They hold image retention but not so bad if you're careful.
You'll definitely have to keep the contrast and brightness down to between 40-50% which keeps the temperature of plasma's down and reduces the effect.
They show very nice deep rich colors of all the tv's out there to be honest with you. It just gives off a nice freaking picture when watching tv.
The newer tv's are much better than the older sets and technology so the burn in effect has been lessened almost to the point you shouldnt worry as much as you are. Those Panny's are nice as heck.
If that's something you don't want to deal with though, get you a nice LCD, which will satisfy you just the same IMO. They show great pictures and colors are nice, they are terrific for gaming, no burn in to worry about either... but
You should find yourself about 3 tv's that you like whichever kind, plasma lcd rptv dlp and research all of them, look at user reviews, look them up on the AVS forums (although you may not be a prick videophile like some of them are) you can guage if something as little as "oh this set shows whites like my tshirt while that one shows whites like my socks" is meaningless to you and filtering the crap you can find out the info that you want.
You can always ask tons of questions here.Last edited by 23; 07-03-2008, 01:59 AM.Comment
