That's an excellent point. And if Jay is the most overrated, what does that make Lil Wayne? Does anyone actually agree that he is a genius/greatest rapper of all time?

Wayne nobody takes seriously. He's for the serious mindless stans.

Jay gets geunine "greatest rapper alive" love/credit from more credible people/music heads. I don't buy it, but I still bump his music on the regular.

Also to the Pac point, sure he died prematurely but I don't get how that automatically means he has garnered undue credit. The absorbant amount of tracks he recorded is ridiculous.

I love Pac's music but not every Pac song is a good song. That being said it has more content anything that Wayne has ever made

Isn't there some kinda law against arguing in two threads at the same time? For my money, only mindless stans crown anyone the greatest ever in music, because credible musicians and music critics know that as Nas said, "ain't no best".

For Tupac, I just don't think he had as great of a hold on words as some rappers.

Man I felt like we're going in circles in the other thread LOL. That tired me out.

I agree there really "aint no best" since it's all a matter of preference. Still though, when you hear these crowns being tossed on guy's heads, and I don't agree with it.. it just makes me cringe.

Anyway, Jay handled this controversey in style, and I give him credit for always turning criticisms into major gains and profits. It's almost as if he has staged every single one of his "beefs" to make him look more and more clever.

I think you can legitimately say that Jay-Z is one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time....Rapper, not so much.

That beef with Nas didn't make him look more clever, lmao, unless there is something I don't know.

As a musician, the better than argument is always silly in any context, but it's worse in rap. In rap there is no criteria when people are talking about this. You have guys who can flow, guys who can stay on topic, guys who can be clever with words, guys who can make a popular record and guys who are versatile. However, when rap fans get together and argue, it's usually not over a criteria based on a sum of these parts. It really seems mindless 99% of the time, because rap has very little musical analysis applied to it.

I think he held his own with Nas. Honestly I don't think there was a clear cut winner. That's a whole nother thread that's been hashed and rehashed a million times over. All I know is, isn't Jay Nas' boss now?

Rap is espeically hard I agree to judge. Especially considering getting the right producers and sound to your album isn't so much created by the artist himself.
