    Re: Joe Buck hates sports

Years ago, when the Yankees were in one of the series in the 90's, Mike and the Mad Dog from WFAN radio here in NY area commented that a very famous broadcaster was reading a book in the back of the booth before and during the tv broadcast. They were surprised that this well-known person seemed to have absolutely no interest in the goings-on. They said he appeared bored and only looked at the field of play when he had to.

They didn't give him up by name, but now I wonder...

He never said he HATES sports he said he dont watch them during the week. His reasoning is that is takes to much time to watch one game during the week(which is true, most baseball games takes almost 4 hours)

People just hate the guy and to say he hates sports is just putting words in his mouth to make him look bad

        Re: Joe Buck hates sports

I'm not a fan of Joe Buck after how he reacted during the whole "Randy Moss faux-mooning the Green Bay crowd," but I have to say that this really isn't a big deal.

He's allowed to do what he wants with his free time. Like DickDalewood and Mgoblue said, it gets tedious watching that much sports, but it doesn't make him any less qualified to do his job and it doesn't make him that much less of a sports fan.

Keep in mind, he did say that he reads all the time, and I'm almost positive he meant sports articles. You can get a lot out of a game recap or other sports article.

          Re: Joe Buck hates sports

He basically said exactly how I feel about sports. He likes watching football more cause the games mean something, where in baseball there are hundreds of games on TV and they last 4 hours.

I find myself losing interest several times during baseball games of the Mets, and its not because of poor play or I don't like the team its just you can only watch soo much baseball.

NHL and NBA games take 2 hours 30 minutes and in Hockey's case you can sit and watch the whole thing and not want to miss a bit of the action. However even those sports can wear on you.

I'm watching Red Sox/Rays right now on ESPN and this game has lasted almost 4 hours.
It does last 2 hours and 50 minutes if it's a top-tier team playing a bottom barrell team, and not counting the freaking commercials. Baseball is a marathon on the real. That's a heck of a lot of talking that you have to have prepared. Not like the game is continuous either. Always a period in between pitches and all that other crap. Good sport but definitely not my favorite.......

he's talking about baseball. Many feel the same, and there's a reason why ratings for all sports spike in the playoffs. Many people don't really care about a regular season Wednesday night baseball game as much as they would for the same game in the playoffs.

There can be several different reasons that can be pointed out at as far as what drags out the length of baseball games. But I think the primary reason is teams who have a lot of patient hitters that consistently fouls off pitches on a 2-strike count and basically look to drive up pitch counts on just about every at-bat is what mainly makes baseball games go long. It's teams who are littered with free-swingers that take a lot of cuts on first pitches in an at-bat, plus teams who have players that put the ball in play before the count reaches strike 2 or misses the ball completely on strike 2 (strikeout) that plays shorter baseball games.

Amen! I don't watch much baseball at all during the season, but playoffs are awesome. Regular season doesn't mean squat, at least not one single game you watch...makes it tough to care when you combine that with the long game times and really boring stretches.

Baseball's a fun event live, but on tv it gets boring.

I get where Joe Buck is coming from. Baseball simply has way too many games in a regular season. It's very hard to watch everygame if you have other hobbies, have children, work full time, etc...

Personally I've started to use my own speed up rules on occasion, it's called a DVR. This allows me to skip all the boring parts like dead time between pitches and pitching changes.

I'm a hardcore baseball fan but when the baseball haters tell me it's a boring sport, I don't disagree.

I don't like Buck, but this thread is a complete mischaracterization.

After reading the thread title and description, and then watching the video, I didn't think it was that bad at all.

Well at least it got responses and I did apologize.
