If anyone hasn't heard all if yet, go listen to the latest Randy Rogers CD. It came out last September, but it was probably the best country CD released last year

Hear it all in full there.

KASE 100.7 is Austin's #1 for New Country and Home of The Bobby Bones Show.

Wow! Gotta give 'ol George credit for having the stones to do this song. It is called "El Rey" a Mexican Mariachi standard that George sings IN SPANISH on his new album.

I think it is a big risk myself (a Mexican-American) as he can alienate his "base" by singing a Spanish song. Ask the Dixie Chicks about "knowing their base". I can hear "whites" calling him a sellout/"going native" and such. And for the Mexicans (what I was referred to as growing up in the 80's..and it wasn't an insult) Mexican-Americans/Hispanics/Latinos.. I can see them playing this song for laughs at BBQ's..."Listen to the "guero" try to sing Spanish!"

Great attempt. Again, great "sack" by putting this on his album. It is a nice try, but something I think he should have stuck to performing live in places such as San Antonio and South Texas. Just like a primarily Spanish group would sound a little "off" performing a country or R&B song. That is how George sounds. But hey...my wife loves it.

I enjoyed Ramon Ayala's version better, but that is an awesome version by King George

no way he will "alienate his base" man. It's Texas. Much of his base is Tejano, but it pretty much all blends together anyway. That is one thing that makes the state so great! You know this man!

I don't know...like I said about the 'Chicks. People/radio stations lost their minds when they said what they did. They still haven't recovered. Your probably right though.

what happened to the Dixie Chicks was ridiculous imo...but I fail to see any connection between that and with George Strait singing a Tejano song. I just dont understand what you were sayin man. George Strait is Texas, and "El Ray" is definitely a very Texas song. I think it will be a very popular song when he sings it live. I certainly dont know how singin a Tejano song could offend a Texan.

anyway, I think we can both agree that George Strait is the man. Just talkin about George Strait music makes me want to partake in some beverages with some senoritas.

I think Texas Country has the luxury of being able to cross-over and do the border songs because it is genuine (for the most part) and usually doesn't come off as sounding corny or forced. Nashville country artists would get massacred for trying to do those songs, however.

good point Tendrils. Living around San Antonio, im sure he has been around a lot of Tejano singers. That is Texas, and probably why singing "El Ray" comes across more genuine imo.

speaking of Tejano singers...this man was one of the greats. I heard this song at a honkytonk this past weekend and it drove me to drinkin

Wow. Nice point of view, good point!

Also I really enjoyed Dwight Yoakums "Streets of Bakersfield" with Buck Owens back in the mid 90's. The lyrics are all in english, but the music is straight Tejano. Great accordion playing in that song.

I have recently started to listen to a lot of Blake Shelton. I have heard his songs, but had no idea he sang most of them.

                          I like Blake.

Hey guys I'm not a country head at all, but I like a lot of the "love songs" that I've heard recently..

I went through the other thread and saw people post Jason Aldean's Green Tractor.. liked the song and got his entire album [Wide Open].

Can anyone suggest artists and albums that are similar to Jason Aldean's Wide Open? I'm a sucker for those types of songs.

The only "country" I have is Blake and Kenny Chesney.

Brad Paisley has some pretty good songs you might like.

His voice is different than Jason Aldean's, but I like both.

Here are a couple country "love songs" that I really like.
