Re: OS Country Music Thread
Where are all the country music fans at on OS? Country music doesn't make up a huge portion of my total music library, but its grown quite a bit in the past couple of months. I consider myself a traditionally rooted alt. country fan since I'm not real happy with the majority of mainstream country today.
Anyway, whats everybody's favorite artists and new albums this year?
I love Neko Case and Drive-By Truckers - they're by far my favorite country artists, though I guess DBT crowds the along the country, country/southern-rock line. I saw Neko last year and she was amazing - heavenly vocals. I can't wait to see DBT in September. I'm also a fan of Ryan Adams' country work, particulary Heartbreaker. Uncle Tupelo is another band I enjoy. Hank Williams III reminds me a bit of his grandfather with a bit of pyschobilly thrown in - I can't wait for his new album to drop as I've really enjoyed his last two. Of course Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Waylon, etc get plays from me as well.
As for new albums, so far Brighter Than Creation's Dark is my favorite of the year, with my favorite songs being Bob, Lisa's Birthday, Daddy Needs A Drink, 3 Dimes Down to name a few, ha.
I picked up a handful of country albums today:
Hayes Carll - Trouble in Mind
Ashton Shepherd - Sounds So Good
Old 97's - Blame It On Gravity
I've only had a chance to listen to Hayes so far (my first album of his) and am loving what I'm hearing. Great music right there.
He's an icon in Texas and so old school that Willie, Merle Haggard and Hank III all dig him.Comment

Re: OS Country Music Thread
How has no one mention Kevin Fowler?
He puts on probably the best show of anyone in genre
I just hope they can find a good replacement for Chris Whitten the fiddler. He has some serious health issues that were hereditary.
Cross Canadian Ragweed is seriously the ****. Ive seen them live a crapload of times and they are one of the best live bands out there imo. I saw them a lot when they were first starting out, and played around Austin a lot in little dives with about 20 people in the crowd and they still played their ***es off.
The crowds have certainly changed. It's mostly packed houses for them now. Still though, not enough people know who they are. That is a great band.
I agree with most of the rest of your list, haven't heard all of them.
A great up and comer is Johnny Cooper

Re: OS Country Music Thread
Did anyone here attend the Larry Joe Taylor Music Festival this year?
It's the biggest multiple day of concerts in the world(maybe). This year there was 30,000 people over 4 days of shows. It's on Larry Joe Taylor's huge ranch, and you camp out over night. It's really sight to see. There are people stay in 100k RVs, and next to my campsite was a horse trailer with a tarp over it.Comment

What has everybody been listening to lately? I've been listening to At Folsom Prison a ton over the past week - such an awesome album.
Thanks for the heads up on those artists, Ollie, I'll have to check em out.
