Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Listening to Take Care right now....umm...I'm not feeling the vibe all to much. Its like I feel guilty for liking some of the songs cause they all soft as pudding. Ya know, if you was on a crowded bus with your headphones on I'd be ashamed to blast the album. lol. I wish he had more bangers and less soft rap/singing songs. Like Lord Knows is nice. I'm also diggin Take Care with the guilt of a downlow Hanson fan....Anyway, just like TYL, I will probably find 2 or 3 good cuts to stick on a playlist and the rest may never see the light of day. Unless me and the misses wanna get romantic....http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Feelin the same way at the moment. He just...doesn't have a lot of straight up lyrical songs on his album. He doesn't have songs where he's just straight up showing off what lyrical skills he has (Headlines doesn't count).Listening to Take Care right now....umm...I'm not feeling the vibe all to much. I'm feelin maybe 4-5 songs. "We'll be Fine", "Lord Knows", "Crew Love", "HYFR", and "Underground Kings". Everything else is as soft as leather pillows. Softness just emanates from this album b

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
He's been "soft" since day 1 though.
I don't know what people expect of dude, but he's been on this soft tip pretty much since day 1Comment

I agree, although his last 2 projects before So Far Gone wasnt as mushy..
I think people just realize his lyrical potential and want more.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I think on Comeback Season, his second mixtape, he really started to show glimpses of who he wanted to be, there were some "soft" cuts on that one.
The thing I like about Drake most is that he knows his limits [in terms of his lane in hip-hop] and he isn't ashamed of who he is as an artist [he'll try and harmonize on any track]. He also didn't change one bit since joining the Young Money label.
I think people just try to box artists in and I've heard a lot of feedback on the album like 'this isn't hip-hop, it's an R&B album'. I just think that those people's expectations were way off to begin with.
I'm glad Drake is just putting out music that he sees fit, after all he was on freaking Degrassi. He realizes that. He isn't gonna try and be something he isn't.
Call it soft or whatever, but I honestly believe that there's tons of dudes out there 25-26 and younger who would co-sign most of Drake's tracks and whom you wouldn't initially think are "soft" individuals. He knows how to hit certain feelings and moods.
As a lyricist, honestly, I think it's obvious that he isn't gonna go down in the history books for that. People shouldn't judge him on that level. His talent is just telling a story and making you feel or remember a moment in life where you can relate to him. I feel like people should have realized he's more of a pop artist than rapper by now.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Went ahead and checked out that Childish Gambino cat that folks was hyping up and I'm definitely feeling his album. Nice lil chill joint and I'm definitely loving the production on here so yea...that's another cat I can say OS has put me on and imma have to check out his other stuff. Same with A$AP Rocky dude as well.
As for this new Pusha...dude would've been better off not even releasing Fear of God II because it's basically the Fear of God Mixtape with a few bonus tracks on here but everything else is basically stuff that was on the mixtape.#RespectTheCultureComment

People shouldn't have expected anything other than the music he makes now, especially if they have been listening to him since the beginning. That's his lane, can't blame him for that, it's what he does best.
Doesn't mean he can't rap hard tho...

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I'm not hatin on the album. I don't particularly care for his singing, and, to be honest, I feel like Gambino sings better than him anyway. I do respect Drake's songwriting ability in terms of his R&B songs. It's on the tracks were he tries to go hard and I'm just left with..."Really...this song is average dawg".
There's nothing on this album, in terms of appeasing fans of lyrisicm, that makes you go "Daaaaaamn! This ***** killed that ****". Sorry for the crude language. Maybe I'm expecting too much from him?Comment

Some girl I know said that Drake is a male version of Lauryn Hill. I wanted to strangle her.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I mean, Drake was saying last year this was going to be a more "R&B" album. That was the expectation I had going in.
Thankfully, Big Ghost doesn't give a damn. Am I the only one who follows him on twitter?Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Michigan
