Crazy how much better he got in Samoa. No other mainstream rapper is touching him lyrically.

Posted in the "What are you listening to" thread, but..

I've been listening to this CD all night. It's crazy to think I was listening to this, when I was 12.... lol.

By far, the simplest AND hardest beat on the face of this planet. Used to reign supreme in the Cafeteria during Lunch back when I was in HS LOL.
I miss the days of good simple beats. Nowadays it's 90% over-produced space-sounding bull****.

Also, Pusha needs to end the solo career IMO. It was a good move signing with Kanye but to me it doesn't seem to be working too well for him and the music Clipse put out was just too sick.

^I don't know about that man, he's just as sick as a solo artist imo. I've been wearing Fear of God out lately. Of course, it'd be nice to get another Clipse/Re-Up Gang project (matter of fact, I believe there are plans for that), but I don't think he needs to give up the solo thing.
              PS: You guys are great.

I've been meaning to post this in here ever since I found an old CD I had of his, but kept forgetting..

where do fans of hip hop stand in regards to Paul Wall?

I have always been very impressed with his lyrical skills; his subject matter isn't very rangy, but his ability to fit words and use words that you don't usually hear really impresses me. Every song he did with Mike Jones & Slim Thug, he killed them. He had, in my opinion, the best verse on "Grillz" with Nelly, Ali, & Gipp. He out performs Kanye on "Drive Slow". He's out-rapped Chamillionaire on a number of songs, which I consider no small task.

So, I'm just curious where you guys stand on his abilities and his material. I've always thought he should be bigger.

EDIT - since I consider it worth sharing

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

Paul Wall was my boy. Was probably my favorite rapper from around 05' to 07ish'. He and Young Dro were definitely the two I listened to the most during that period. I still have some mixtapes that I go back to on occasion (Swishahouse presents Paul Wall the Mixtape, No 401k for a Hustler) plus I still got People's Champ and Get Money, Stay True on my ipod to this day. Somewhere along the way I knid of just stopped checking for him though.

Like you said, material wise, he's not going to blow you away; it was pretty standard stuff, grills, cars, hoes, that kind of stuff. But as far as ability goes, I always thought he was just a tad bit underrated. He has a real smooth flow, real effortless sounding. Also like you said, he was good at rhyming things that you don't usually hear dudes use in rhymes. The same goes for Young Dro and that's why I liked him so much too.

I'm glad you brought him up, now I'm gonna go check to see if he has some new stuff out.

Haha I liked Paul Wall too!

I used to blast him and Slim Thug when I had my Mike Jones phase.

                      Speaking of the South.

                      Anybody like BG?

One of my Top 5 Kanye tracks.

Was also a fan of BG back in the day, especially Hot Boyz BG. Last I heard from him, I think he was locked up for something(think it was a Gun charge).

The screwed version of Drive Slow on Paul Wall's CD was pure nostalgia for me.

I remember seeing Kanye, Mos Def, and Freeway perform Two Words on Chappelle's Show. I think that was one of the first times I heard a Kanye song.
