I had a moment like Pack's answer on 23 recently on twitter. When 53 year old NASCAR driver, Mark Martin posted his music playlist on twitter and it was straight Gucci Mane, I almost died . He's dead serious about it too.

Also, PPM pretty much summed up my thoughts on those topics as well.

Aside from that trap wave, alot of new younger dudes are actually going for that 90's hip hop sound.

I think he means 90's hip hop, which I disagree with.

Technically, the Old School Era (early 80s) was probably the worst in hip-hop's history, expectedly so; the genre was still in its infancy.

I think I would rather listen to some of those old-school songs that may be horrible, before I listen to some of the mainstream garbage that is being put out today.

Honestly, the only disconnect I find between some of the 80s artists and from then to now is the level of style of their beat productions. 80s obviously sound dated now, but if you can't kick it with BDP I just don't know.

Technically, the Old School Era (early 80s) was probably the worst in hip-hop's history, expectedly so; the genre was still in its infancy.

I dont post here often because Ive been way out of touch with contemporary Hip Hop for the past 4 years. But this knocked me out when I read it.

But I'll chalk it up to opinions. Early Hip Hop may not have had the production value of today, naturally, but it damn sure wasn't as vapid.

I would say both. It may be a small sample size but I get this impression from my twitter feed (I follow alot of guys who blog about music or run sites as well as up and coming artists) and IRL encounters.

I don't think it's an argument that Drake was the best (mainstream) rapper of 2011.

Drake, speaking in terms of his solo work, is really in a lane of his own. His sound/production is unique to him. Doesn't try and replicate what other people are doing, which I greatly respect.

Also didn't hurt that the album he released went platinum in like 2 months.
