lol only you would take what I said as a personal attack and then reciprocate some worthless trash talking back at me. Your "I don't want to" spiel speaks far more about your certified ignorance than it does about making a grandiose statement about what you do choose to listen to.

I would welcome any of the artists ya'll vote for... I mean explain why listening to an assortment of radio tracks may be indeed why hip-hop still thrives. I mean personally, I think without the Drakes and the Minaj's whether I detest them or not, would lead to a sudden downfall in hip-hop because the average hip-hop fan would not mesh well with rappers who lack that popular appeal... kind of like the NBA circa Spurs winning championships.

I SHOULD find it a little offensive that ya'll are trying to dictate the criteria to only include what you MAY know, because fear of the unknown? Genuine hatred for non-ballers? Idk... you have no explanation for it. Instead, you hit me with whatever trash you just said.

AND LOL... I don't need you listening to "my ****" as you so call it. Take it or leave it... that's the nature of having fans buddy. I can't hold everyone in the world accountable, nor will I even try.

Definitely reminds me to post this tho...

        New topic.

And you two should probably not respond to each other in this thread anymore.

A rookie, no, but I'd say he falls under the "Rising Star" title, which makes that category confusing.

Wiz is just getting "big" and hitting the "mainstream" audience, so, while not a rookie, this was a kind of break-out/rising star year for him.

In the music industry a rookie is a up and coming artist...

Name it want you want but thats what it is...

Hence why I wrote Rookie/Newcomer/Up And Coming Artist....

And this isnt just a random category im making up, this is how they are actually looked at when making deals...

I agree hes becoming much more mainstream this year, heck I see so much Taylor Gang or Die it aggravates me. I just don't see him as a rookie since hes been putting out mixtapes for quite awhile now. He has shown a lot of growth from his earlier stuff an has also become more popish I guess you could say since it helps make $$

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

So is every underground rapper is a rookie or an up and coming artist? Is Royce Da 5'9, who has been of the best MC's in rap for the past 6-7 years, a rookie? He hasn't blown up. But he's been a proven MC for the majority of the decade.

Elzhi has one of the most respected lyricists for more than a decade. He doesn't push records like crazy and white boys in the suburbs don't drool over him like they do for Wiz Khalifa. Are we going to consider this guy a rookie then? He's been in the game for 12 years.

The point is that nobody uses the music industry's apparent term for rookie. Nobody is going to think of Wiz Khalifa or Jay Electronica as a rookie, except for you and apparently some suits at Roc Nation or something.

It'd just make more sense to split rookie and rising star. Because as we have seen in the last few pages, nobody thinks of Jay Elect or Wiz Khalifa as rookies. As a result we have spent more time telling you about how they aren't rookies, opposed to telling you who the best rookies are. See my point? It just causes unnecessary confusion.

Royce put numbers on the charts since like '02...

Exactly what is a "rookie" to you? someone who just started rapping yesterday?

And for the last time, there isnt a such thing as "underground", all music is reconizable on the billboards...

There is something called Independent tho...

Anyways lets stop and get back on topic of the awards, you can always PM me...

Why do you guys keep hanging on the "rookie" thing? The category was rookie/newcomer/rising star.

No one is saying guys like Wiz and Jay Elect are rookies, but they do fall under the "rising star" part.

Royce is good but the best of the past 6-7 years...? Thats debatable.

They aren't many guys that have the bars that he does. He destorys other rappers beats all the time. His lyrics are great, and he is charismatic and funny as hell. Check out his freestyles over Forever, Airplanes, or "over" by Drake. Everything he does is quality.

He may not be the best, but I think there is 2-3 categories. There are the guys that just rhyme circles around people, They are great lyricists. Then there are the guys that are pretty good, but inconsistent. Then their are the ones that suck. I think he is the first group.

He isn't going to drop some major album that turns out to be a classic, or do anything that changes rap, but in terms of just lyrics, bar for bar, he is up there with the best of them.
