I respect BDK, but he's dead wrong. Hip-hop today in 10x as lyrical as it was in the 80s, and it's more entertaining.

The interviewer has a sexy voice, though.

    Crooked I's mixtape is hard.

I agree, there definitely is some lyricism out here. You just have to search for it. I didn't check out the vid yet but if he's refering to mainstream music, then I''d have to agree with him on that.

That's exactly what he is talking about and there is no argument. He's talking about what you hear on the radio, and he's right in that it's horrible and lacking lyrical content/prowess. He said the extremely talented artists have to find other avenues for getting their music out there. The music you hear on the radio today isn't even half as lyrical as what you'd hear every day 20+ or so years ago. Growing up in that era myself I can speak on this with first hand knowledge.

That's not to say that everything was about content back then, because it wasn't but there was better balance on the radio. What you'd hear was more diverse, and it's not like that anymore.

Funny thing listening to that you could tell ol' girl had no clue who Millie Jackson was when he made that reference.

That's cuz the lyrical stuff was mainstream in the 90's.

You had to go watch The Box to get what you hear now on the radio.

You'd occasional hear the catchy hook song on the radio but it wasnt played all day every day like it is now.

I remember when the Source was that ish -- used to love seeing who was on the cover and then flipping to the back to see how many mics everybody got -- until your post, I honestly didn't know they made them anymore.

How did you come to the conclusion that he was speaking strictly of what's on the radio?

Who cares what's on the radio these days anyway? The radio exists to appease the LCD; just find what you like on the web.

TraeThaTruth was shot outside of a club last night in Houston. He was shot in the shoulder, but three others died. SMH.

Sometimes I have no choice but to listen to the radio at work due to the fact that every song out nowadays has profanity laced lyrics so ethier I have to find radio versions of all my music or listen to the edited versions on the radio. So after the 12th play of "I be's in the trap" by Nikki, I'm quickly curse under my breath for the state of hip hop/

I wouldn't even care about those stupid *** songs if the radio stations weren't just playing the same 15 songs every hour. All I want is some variety. I just thank God that I can use my ipod in the car cause if I was forced to just listen to the radio, I would probably give up on hip-hop altogether.
