I agree that just because you may be comfortable with gays does not mean you'd sit in their bedroom and watch. I was merely stating that people should have been aware that the material in Bruno was akin to that analogy.

Now, it's very likely that people just didn't do their research. And I'm wrong for assuming that people do. Actually, I should know better than that especially considering the actions I see people take on a given day.

But if you watched Borat and you know Cohen, then no, I don't agree that you couldn't have known he would push the envelope that far with a gay character. It could surprise you, but I find it hard to believe that anyone that follows him could be completely oblivious to the direction the film would take.
I agree...I am with you on being surprised people are leaving the theater. It's like someone watching "Jackass" and going "OMG these guys are doing gross, stupid stuff, i'm leaving".

I think my other point was that the reactions of people in Bruno (the people he's pranking) aren't really indicative of the entire US...I do think it's sad people have so many issues with sex (hetero or not) and homophobia, but that's not a discussion for here as has been mentioned.

      Re: Bruno

Bruno makes Brokeback Mountain look like a guy’s flick. This is the gayest mainstream movie I’ve ever seen in my life. If you feel uncomfortable with full male frontal, simulated anal sex, and whole bunch of other gay acts, than I wouldn’t recommend this film.

I thought it was hilarious from start to finish. Because the movie was under 85 minutes, there weren't any filler segments in the film. I was worried the trailer showed most of the best parts of the film but that wasn’t the case. Bruno at the Swinger’s party was epic. I'm not going to say more because it would spoil the segment.

I thought Borat was funnier though.

        Re: Bruno

It's basically a gay version of Borat imo. When you look at the story lines
        Spoiler

I thought it was a pretty funny movie that really pushed the boundaries of what could be shown in a cinema but it was nowhere near as funny as Borat imo.

Same. It definately had it's funny parts but I felt like he was trying to go too far over the top with some of the gay stuff to make it funny. Then again, Bruno was the charachter I liked the least anyway.

The karate scene was very funny though,

              Re: Bruno

Eh, I'll probably never ever ever watch this movie again. I don't think I've ever been so uncomfortable in a movie theater. I didn't think it was near as funny as Borat either. It had it's moments, but Borat had me in non-stop laughter from practically the beginning to the end. This was kinda obscene humor, the lines weren't as funny as Borat either. Actually, I think the funniest part of the film was when he was out hunting/camping with those 3 dudes and there was that 3 minute overly-awkward silence.

I think the worst part was that there were kids in the theater when I went. I dunno if they were even teenagers yet, but they were giggling at some of the parts, but man, that is not a movie kids should be allowed to see.

Dropped to $8.3 million this weekend, ouch. Doubt Bruno's gonna come anywhere near close to Borat. They can't be happy with this trend.

Word of mouth is the best advertisement. I would bet that if they hadn't gone over the line as they did, on the heels of Borat's success, they probably would have done much better.

Bruno- Wow...i just don't know what to say about this movie. I saw Borat and actually enjoyed it, this on the other hand was just plain ridiculous. I'm was awed that they showed his penis without any sort of censorship. But i'm not going to lie; i laughed like a maniac. Pretty short movie though

Showing a penis in a comedy has been all the rave lately.

No idea when the actual dvd comes out, but versions are floating around now. If it happens to be "unrated" I don't even know what to expect.

ugh Bruno is the dumbest movie i have ever seen. yes it had its funny moments but there are more times where it just crossed the line. i know its all just to poke fun at the major homophobia that goes on here in america but this movie went beyond the boundaries at multiple points in the movie.
i mean, i have a pretty weird and tasteless sense of humor but wow this movie was ridiculous.
