    Slingbox/Laptop Question

So I'm seriously considering buying a slingbox. If I do this, I want to be able to connect my laptop to my TV. I've heard an s-video cable is the only required cable for the picture and ofcourse you need a cable to audio.

So if I buy an S-Video cable, hook it up to my laptop and tv and also have slingbox sending the signal to my laptop, I should be able to view my slingbox channels on my tv...right? And if so, how good/bad is the picture quality going to be on my tv?

Please explain what you want to do again.

With a Slingbox, you hook it up to the cable\satellite box and then to the internet. Then any computer/phone can access it. You don't need to hook anything up from your laptop, you just need internet/network access.

I'm going to hook it up to my laptop using my TV/cable box at my parents house. Then run an S-Video cable from my laptop to my TV in my room here at my apartment.

Is your tv a LCD? If so, you can hook it up to your laptop via VGA or DVI. Either of those would give you a much better picture than S-video...

your picture will depend on what the speed of the upstream is where the slingbox is, it will be viewable, but the picture won't be great if you don't have enough bandwidth
