    Gaming Laptops

So the combination of Starcraft 2 and College looming has got me thinking about laptops. My current desktop is outdated and I'd like a faster one for a multitude of reasons even past Starcraft such as video editing, photoshop, and the like.

I also need one for when I get shipped off to college and I was thinking I could kill two birds with one stone by spending some extra cash to get a decent Laptop that can handle the games and all that but still be useful for college.

I also heard that they are far overpriced and I should build my own desktop (which I'm capable of) and just buy a cheapy laptop.

That idea intrigued me in a way but I like the idea of having everything from pics, to music, to games in one computer and having it on the go.

I guess I'm still open to both ideas but for now I want to research the laptop portion of it. Has anyone purchased a performance laptop lately? Or head anything about them. Obviously there are the name brand AlienWares which look sweet but also must be hideously overpriced. I have also heard bad thing about their customer service.

Other brands I've seen are HP, Voodoo, Cyberpower, Dell, and Asus.

I'm just looking to get some advice on the subject and what I can/should do and what brands are the ones to look at.

    Cheers,

    -Chad

    Re: Gaming Laptops

A while ago...I would have recommended Alienware.....except they got bought up by Dell...and well to be frank.....UGHH
After some pretty bad experiences(and nearly $750.00 of repairs they said I needed...but I just happened to find the problem myself...a ZERO dollar repair...long story, but Dell tech service BLOWS).....so that's out.

I went and found this company...MTech ...http://www.m-techlaptops.com/ and ordered my new laptop from there. I have it about two months now and love it. I realize...I haven't had to rely on them so far for any kind of service or anything.....so what else am I going to say....but you asked....and they have a pretty good FAQ section in that link I gave you.

I really wanted to go with either Falcon or Alienware(I had a Falcon Northwest desktop...and then got an Alienware that I use now....about 3 years old(pre-Dell) and love/d it, so I was hoping to go with them for the laptop. Falcon is just nuts with their prices for computers right now. I don't want to say "waste of money" ....but it's just way too overpriced....

    Hope this helps a little..

Yeah I heard it was mainly because of Dell's customer service that things fell apart.

About those M-tech laptops, what were the main specs of your unit and what was the final price? I'd like to keep it $1,500-$2,000.

Check out Alienware and VoodooPC since they both specialize in gaming.

Gaming Laptops aren't my thing, but Cnet has some review on several within this link:

These are the best laptops that my colleagues and I have gotten our hands on in the past year, spanning all types, sizes and prices.
